Choose Your Own Adventure - The October 2024 Spin Challenge

24-Oct On this day in 2004, Queen became the first rock act to receive an official seal of approval in Iran. Western music was still strictly censored in the Islamic Republic, where homosexuality is considered a crime, but an album of Queen's greatest hits was released this week in Iran. Freddie Mercury, was proud of his Iranian ancestry, and illegal bootleg albums and singles had made Queen one of the most popular bands in Iran. Expert: Play an album by a band that is popular in a country that does not have stable diplomatic relations with the US.

Lets stay in Russia (or the Soviet Union at the time) with 1.6 million people turning up for a show. I love the audience shots in this, speaks to the power of music.

18-Oct - Medium - Play a Musical
I'm determined to catch up and finish, so points are an afterthought. I'll be choosing the level that matches closest to what I feel like playing, because there have been fun choices at every level.

I'm never disappointed when I spin this.

I thought more people would take that approach out of necessity and still enjoy the challenges but we've got some competitors with crazy deep collections. I don't know if others have enjoyed this as much as I have, but even though I've hardly been able to spin anything the last couple of weeks, it's been awesome to see such a wide range of titles played in this challenge. So at least selfishly it's been cool to see some of the less frequently spun things y'all have.

Yeah, I can't keep up with the top dogs here. I'm loving it regardless!

23-Oct On this day in 1962, 12-year-old Little Stevie Wonder recorded his first single for Motown Records, “Thank You For Loving Me All The Way.”

Expert: Play an album by a musician who has a physical disability that they have overcome to play music.

Subtle - Exiting Arm

Dax Pierson, the band's keyboardist, was left quadriplegic by a tour bus accident, but continued to record with the group.

25-OctOn this date in 2000, Billy Ray Cyrus lends his support to Second Harvest Food Bank when his tour bus stops in 16 different locations on Nashville's Music Row throughout the day to collect food for Harvest 2000; later the same night, he headlines a concert benefiting the charity. Expert: Pledge to donate at least 5 cans of food or $5 to a local food bank this month and play an album that you wish we would all sit around and listen to with you.

I've both donated to and volunteered at Second Harvest Food Bank so consider me mulletted.

I'd like to invite you all into the music bunker to listen to this incredible record with me. Its songs revolve around longing and love but the raw emotion in this record can just as easily be applied to poverty and hunger...

MYD Tally - 228

I first listened to this a couple of years ago because of a post you made. It's so good! I really need to remedy the fact that I don't have a copy.

We regularly volunteer at Feeding San Diego which in turn provides backpack lunches and mobile food banks back to food insecure families at Mrs. ImTheOceans elementary school. Their work does my Achy Breaky Heart good.

I picked this particular album as its all instrumental and we'd likely be talking during part of it. But it hits some incredible grooves where the conversation would fade away and we'd just lock in.
