I guess this is as good a place as anywhere. I got a cryptic email from Sturgill's mailing list about a Diplo project with Johnny Blue Sky, which is apparently Sturgill's new moniker. I knew he had said he only planned to do 5 Sturgill Simpson albums, so I should've seen something different coming, but an album with Diplo seems... odd? I guess Diplo is doing some country work? (I think I just said Diplo 3 more times than I have in the entirety of my life).

Anyway, what do you all think is happening here? It's clearly Sturgill coming in at the end, so I guess his vocal chord is healing.

Long answer: could be a one time guest vocal, paid well for a day's work, uses pseudonym to seperate it from work under his own name. He has often cited he would like to work with Frank Ocean and other artists outside country.
Short answer: $$$ and something different to relieve boredom.

Also I posted about this one last week in the new release thread, but it’s worth a mention here as well. RIYL cowboy campfire folk ballads kind of along the same lines as some of Colter Wall’s tunes, only completely opposite end of the spectrum vocally. If you dig that Sons of Rainier album from earlier this year you might like this as well as he is also a member of that band. Faraway Skies might be my favorite song of the year so far.
