December 2020 Challenge Thread: Let's Go Out With A Bang (The return of the raffle!)

Day 20: Covers!
Play an album with a great cover song or great cover art or that you want to put on when staying under the covers on a lazy Sunday morning

One of 3 volumes of covers by Sid & Susie (Matthew Sweet & Susanna Hoffs). They're a lotta fun.

Day 21: Winter Solstice Play a record that epitomizes winter

Express Rising - Fixed Rope

I live in a snowy place and I love when it snows, as long as I don’t have to travel anywhere. I love the silence that happens while it is snowing, like a giant blanket of cotton batting has been spread out everywhere. But I also love how bright it is at night as the white powdery snow reflects ambient light back up into the white puffy snow clouds.

Day 19: Favourite N&G Discovery

This forum, in both its current & former incarnations, were where I first discovered the music of Daptone & Colemine, and this is the first album I bought from either label 3 years ago:

Blood, Sweat & Tears - s/t

Featuring cover versions of Traffic’s “Smiling Phases”, Laura Nyro’s “And When I Die”, Billie Holiday’s “God Bless the Child” and their amazing cover of Brenda Holloway’s “You’ve Made Me So Very Happy”, which is the sole reason why I bought this album!

Day 20 - Cover

I was going to go a different direction but then I watched Peter Jackson's teaser for the upcoming Beatles doc and saw a couple clips of Billy Preston, so this one was going to get spun today anyway. It has a nice cover of Blackbird on it and also, I totally love the back cover photo.

Day 21: Winter Solstice

Looking at my collection via the covers view on Discogs I couldn't find anything that had a more Winter Solstice feel than the cover of this promo 12".

I'm still waiting for them to release the Jethro Tull Christmas album on vinyl - seems like it would be the perfect BFRSD release for them.

Jethro Tull ‎– Ring Out, Solstice Bells
Chrysalis ‎– CHS 3 PDJ, 1976
