December 2021 Vinyl Spin Challenge Thread: ‘Tis The Season Of Giving

Day 20: Drums/Percussion

My original plan was to start today with the themes I missed over the weekend, but my original pick for today was swiped and it turns out the album I planned for the Angry theme also works really well for today. So…

Phil Collins - Hello, I Must Be Going!

Not as prominent with drums as “Face Value” was, but they’re there.

I am getting the 2022 list of Challenge Leaders set up. So far the following have expressed interest:
@imtheocean
@waruv
@wmeugene
@gaporter
@avecigrec
@ranbalam
@jamieanderson1968
@Lee Newman
@Hemotep
@Turbo
@TenderLovingKiller®

That is 11 and ideally we would have 12. If anyone here would be interested in putting a challenge together at some point next year please reply ASAP. I am going to put together the list here shortly. If we have 2 people interested, I would be happy to step aside.

Also, if any of the current volunteers would like to put together the January bid please let me know so you can have ample time to put together a fun challenge to kick off the new year.

Thanks!

Yeah, I thought about it and I'd be happy to do January.
Hey @avecigrec - I have 31 categories ready to go, just in case you'd truly rather do you birthday month.

Day 20 - Drums / Percussion
Play something that prominently features drums or percussion

Smashing Pumpkins - Gish

In my head I cycled through all the drummers that inspired me to get started on the kit when I was a wee lad. Bonham, Bun E Carlos, Keith Moon, Ian Paice and more of course. Then I thought about all the amazing jazz drummers I got into later in life...so many giants to choose from. But I ultimately decided to go with this record; it's an absolute drum clinic by Jimmy Chamberlin. There are so many great moments on here, and I was wowed and inspired by them all when this came out.

Day 15 | Africa
Thought I had more options for this day. I’ll spin this CD instead - this is one of my top wants to get pressed on vinyl. Somalian rapper - the song “Wavin’ Flag” was used for the World Cup around the time. So many good songs on the album, but “Take A Minute” is my favorite.

I picked this up in a dollar bin a few years ago for themes just like this one.

Day 21 - One-Hit Wonder
this one album and they disappeared into thin air

I was gifted this in a box of records a few years ago after a friend was clearing out his parents loft before they moved into care, all had never been played and looked like they had been overstocked records earmarked for a charity donation as they all have the same "Happy xmas" label on the front but I guess back in 1990 charity shops were overwhelmed with vinyl and didn't want them, now I just need to work out how to get that label off without damaging the cover as its been there 30+years i doubt that's going to happen
info from Discogs
Toy Matinee was a short-lived American rock band, and also the title of their only album. Their sound was an array of mixed influences, including progressive rock, AOR and pop reminiscent of both the Beatles and the Beach Boys.
plenty of CD copies out there but not so much vinyl
