December 2022 Vinyl Spin Challenge: The Intergalactic Mixtape Dance-Off!

Day 18 – Southern Nights
Southern nights, have you ever felt a southern night. Free as a breeze, not to mention the trees.
Play something southern (southern part of a country, southern hemisphere, etc…).

The Clash "London Calling" (1979 Epic; 2013 reissue)
Brixton is a neighborhood in South London. Next track on the mix is "Guns Of Brixton".

Day 18 – Southern Nights
Play something southern (southern part of a country, southern hemisphere, etc…).

Being a huge NZ/Flying Nun fan, always happy to have an excuse to play something from there. Sadly I only have a few Flying Nun cds, but this is one of my favourites
The Chills - Submarine Bells (Effloresce And Deliquesce for the playlist)

By the way, cds take crappy pics.

Day 14 – Fox On The Run
You, you talk about just every band, but the names you drop are second-hand (second-hand). I've heard it all before.
Play an artist/album that you seem to be one of the few people that listens to them/it. If you wish, tell us why we should listen too.

Caracara - New Preoccupations

I used the search to confirm that I'm the only one ever to post about this band on the forum. Fun fact: they good.

Day 15 – Lake Shore Drive
And there ain't no road just like it, anywhere I found.
Play some spaceship flying music - what’s on your stereo when you’re cruising around the stars?

El-P - Fantastic Damage

If I'm heading into the unknown, I think I need some aggressive swagger. "Deep Space 9mm" it is.

Day 16 – The Chain
I can still hear you saying, you would never break the chain (Never break the chain).
Play something related to what you played yesterday and tell us how it’s linked.

Danger Mouse & Black Thought - Cheat Codes

El-P has a guest spot on the 🔥 track "Strangers."

He used to live in South London.

That was on my short list today as well! I started looking into Nigerian music, then realized that Nigeria is actually in the Northern hemisphere just above the equator, so I had to drop that line of thought. South London was the next thing I ventured to and ended up landing on Brixton. I just like the transition The Clash is bringing with what I want to play next.

Day 19 – My Sweet Lord
My sweet Lord, my Lord, my Lord. I really want to know you. Really want to go with you.
My Sweet Lord is villain Ego The Living Planet’s introduction song in Guardians Vol. 2. Play the song that would introduce you if you were a villain. Optional: what kind of villain would you be?

Black Sabbath "Vol. 4" (1972 Warner Brothers, Canadian pressing)
My villain song would be Supernaut, and that would be the villain's name as well. A being from the stars with powers to bend time and space. That guitar riff is exactly what a villain needs to make his entrance. I just was doing some quick searches before posting this and noticed there's been a comic series with this name. Makes sense since the name is cool as fuck. I had never heard of it before. @TenderLovingKiller® Do you know about it? Any good? But I picture my Supernaut more as a mysterious villain with a space suit and hints of a skeletal face peering through the visor. I've seen the future and I've left it behind.

Curtis Mayfield - Superbly (Pusherman)
What I love about this soundtrack and the movie is that the hero of the story is a villain who has convinced himself he is a good guy.

I’m not familiar with the comic but I agree, Supernaut would be a fantastic name for a comic book character.

Day 17 – Bring It On Home To Me
Bring it on home to me. Yeah (yeah) yeah (yeah) yeah (yeah).
Play something featuring the word “yeah”.

Also on the nose. I think "Yeah" is used in The Yeah Yeah Yeah Song about five billion times, give or take a billion. Plus Pompeii Am Gotterdamerung was on my shortlist of intergalactic cruisin music, so I'm glad to spin this.

The Flaming Lips ~ At War with the Mystics

Day 19 – My Sweet Lord
My sweet Lord, my Lord, my Lord. I really want to know you. Really want to go with you - introducing the villian...why are you a villain again?
PXL_20221219_173422365.jpg
Roots Manuva "Run Come Save Me" - clearly I'm the try of villain that likes to throw you off by coming out to a banger of a tune and proceed to go back to my elementary school and beat all the children in athletic competitions and be sure to brag and boast about it all over the galaxy!!
