December 2022 Vinyl Spin Challenge: The Intergalactic Mixtape Dance-Off!

Day 18 – Southern Nights
Southern nights, have you ever felt a southern night. Free as a breeze, not to mention the trees.
Play something southern (southern part of a country, southern hemisphere, etc…).

We're going to the South Side. The Gwen Stefani version is superior, too bad its not on Spotify for me to add to my mixtape.

Day 19 – My Sweet Lord
My sweet Lord, my Lord, my Lord. I really want to know you. Really want to go with you.
My Sweet Lord is villain Ego The Living Planet’s introduction song in Guardians Vol. 2. Play the song that would introduce you if you were a villain. Optional: what kind of villain would you be?

Mountain Song would be a great villain introduction song. If I was going to be a villain, I'd probably go with a transformation to a character like "Spragg" that has risen from obscurity to create havoc (with a cool background song).

I’d be an Anti-Villain/Designated Villain, targeting the upper classes and destroying government buildings & statues in the name of the oppressed citizens of the city, only to be stopped by those same government forces (aka the “gOoD GuYs”)!

…in an entirely fictional universe, of course.

I am Lord Navage, Bringer Of Nasal Congestion. Don't be fooled by the gizmo that ripped off my name trying to be the good guy.

My theme song...

The Jesus Lizard - GOAT

Day 20 – Come A Little Bit Closer
Then the music stopped, when I looked the café was empty. Then I heard José say "Man, you know you're in trouble plenty".
Press play and restart the music in the café. Play something you’d hear in whatever type of café you’d be in.

I'm at the Bluenote Café...

HaHA!
Same song I was going to use because my copy of Lust in Phaze finally arrived today!

Day 17 – Bring It On Home To Me
Play something featuring the word “yeah”.

Turbo, I'm gonna MURDERIZE YOU next time we get together. I had to pull out the barely-readable lyric sheets for a bunch of records to find something for today. I landed of Toni Braxton's newest album "SPELL MY NAME", specifically the song "Saturday Night"; the final phrase being:

"Yeah, damn it's Saturday night"

BONUS: Toni's looking fine on the back cover (see below).

New Orleans LA is relatively southern, from my perspective in Canada. So, I'm playing the song "It Ain't My Fault" by the Wild Magnolias with Big Chief Bo Dollis on their album "Wild Side(s)".

To me, Phil Collin's "In The Air tonight" would make a pretty bad-ass soundtrack for a villain.

I once heard the Ray Brown Trio played in a Starbucks. I want to go back to that moment. Here's my favourite Ray Brown album "3 Dimensional".

P.S. If you didn't know, there's an inverse correlation between album art quality and music quality on many jazz albums; making this an epic record!

The Guardians took off from @Turbo 's place on a quick trip, and stopped at the Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino for a snack before heading back. They rated it Four Stars out of Five.

Tash Sultana "Flow State" (2018 Mom + Pop)
I'm a fancy coffee hipster, so my café music should be somewhat smooth. So in comes Tash Sultana, this record being a fresh discovery for me this year thanks to @cul8er. In a mix, you sometimes also need to take a sharp turn, so this is going to make a fun transition from Supernaut. I'm selecting "Cigarettes" for the mix, which does breakdown into a wonderful screaming guitar solo and some uptempo rhythms.
