December 2022 Vinyl Spin Challenge: The Intergalactic Mixtape Dance-Off!

Day 20 – Come A Little Bit Closer
Play something you’d hear in whatever type of café you’d be in.

Well this would be a Cat Cafe (aka a Cat Brothel). Chan Marshall would be the patron saint.

Cat Power - Jukebox (Breathless for the playlist)

I would imagine it would serve these holiday drinks from a Cat Cafe I went to a few week ago. I wonder what would be in a Cat Power? Probably a mixture of Vodka & Energy Drinks.

Day 20 – Come A Little Bit Closer
Then the music stopped, when I looked the café was empty. Then I heard José say "Man, you know you're in trouble plenty".
Press play and restart the music in the café. Play something you’d hear in whatever type of café you’d be in.

Tash Sultana "Flow State" (2018 Mom + Pop)
I'm a fancy coffee hipster, so my café music should be somewhat smooth. So in comes Tash Sultana, this record being a fresh discovery for me this year thanks to @cul8er. In a mix, you sometimes also need to take a sharp turn, so this is going to make a fun transition from Supernaut. I'm selecting "Cigarettes" for the mix, which does breakdown into a wonderful screaming guitar solo and some uptempo rhythms.

Awesome.

I'll get back into it later this week. I've been traveling the past few weeks and hope to get back to spinning records instead of spinning tires later this week! 🍻

Dimly lit, chill, mutant samba infused with a smidget of drum'n'bass playing.
I'll order a black coffee.

Otto - Samba pra Burro

I think The Prine Cafe would be a pretty cool place. Maybe they'd name a drink after him.

Day 20 – Come A Little Bit Closer
Then the music stopped, when I looked the café was empty. Then I heard José say "Man, you know you're in trouble plenty" - some of that hardcore café music you smash coffee mugs to..

Brazilissino Twelve unique tracks from the French scene (70's & 80's) - look I could walk into my local Tim Hortons, grab the AUX and play some wild shit while I suck back my cup of mud water but no one wants that... Might as well play something that will keep me there eating terrible donuts and whatever monstrosity of a breakfast sandwich they are pushing....

Love this track!

Stereolab - Dots And Loops
Song: “Miss Modular”

In my dream, I just walked into this hip Parisian cafe and they’re playing this.

Day 21 - We've got a wham, bam shang-a-lang, and a sha-la-la-la-la-la babe.
Play something with an onomatopoeia...wait what? Hey Google, what's an onomatopoeia?

LCD Soundsystem "This is Happening" - contains the song Pow Pow which clearly shows I understand the assignment and totally nailed it!

Day 18 – Southern Nights
Southern nights, have you ever felt a southern night. Free as a breeze, not to mention the trees.
Play something southern (southern part of a country, southern hemisphere, etc…).

Tom Petty - Southern Accents
0AEB2BA4-5849-4226-8EA0-F5F3962A4F52.jpeg
Tom Petty is from Gainesville, Florida. Florida is a a southern state but it’s weird (big surprise) in that the northern part of the state, where Gainesville sits; is more “Southern” culturally speaking than the geographically Southern portion of the state.

Day 21 – Wham Bang Sham-A-Lang
We've got a wham, bam shang-a-lang, and a sha-la-la-la-la-la babe.
Play something with an onomatopoeia.

I think I've got this right...

Churn across many voices in our vape
As we surge and gush, we were steam and a distant heat

Day 19 – My Sweet Lord
My sweet Lord, my Lord, my Lord. I really want to know you. Really want to go with you.
My Sweet Lord is villain Ego The Living Planet’s introduction song in Guardians Vol. 2. Play the song that would introduce you if you were a villain. Optional: what kind of villain would you be?

Tool - Lateralus
DCFE0061-8A74-407C-9F36-1B0178684A15.jpeg
It feels like Tool only makes songs that could be used during the makings of a villain origin montages.

As far as Villains go, my favorite has always been Magneto, his superpower is sneaky awesome and while his ends don’t justify the means and his philosophy is flawed he is the yin to Professor X’s Yang.

This album was essentially designed to be played from start to finish at every coffee shop (excluding maybe the Bikini Baristas) thoughout the Pacific Northwest.
