Definitive Audiophile pressings

They don't get plates, because Walmart doesn't press anything. Variants are all done when the plates are in play for regular versions and the colored loser editions. Total randon luck if a pressing bought at Walmart is better than any other, or it may have to do with the press run fotr that particular color.
I wouldn't say this is entirely true. While Walmart doesn't have their own pressing plant, what they do have is massive corporate pressure because of the size of their distribution. Many of theirs tend to be pressed at better plants than some other variants, as with the new Dirt release not all variants get pressed at the same plant with the same plates. And while some of their variants are certainly luck of the draw as you state, they've used their corporate muscle to secure some exclusives that others can't press (yet). Having worked on the corporate contract side of the supply chain before, I can guarantee that they are getting priority and special treatment from some of the plants, because the size of their orders dwarfs what most places can do, so the contracts are huge and worth going the extra mile to make sure they keep coming back.

Yeah, it's so weird that the Walmart variants have been so good. I've been thrilled with the Metallica and Fleetwood Mac records I've purchased from them.

Same. I've grabbed five of the Metallica variants, Alanis, Al Green, Elvis and Queen and they've all been problem free and sound great. Not to mention they can all be had for like $25 or less. Works for me.

Can recommend first mono UK pressings for 1 and 2. I have the US pressing of 3 on Smash which is alright but missing 30 Century Man and the half speed reissue of 4 which is ok as well. I’d assume 3 and 4 would be best on first UK pressings too but those cost a lot more than 1 and 2. I think the European reissue of 3 and 4 are probably your best bet for reasonably priced releases.
Thanks, appreciate it. Off to Discogs I go.

Cross post from jazz thread but:
Someone said that Jazz Impressions of Black Orpheus by Vince Guaraldi briefly popped up under the small batch title list on craft’s site today. Whatever the title is, the next one step will be announced tomorrow

Yep. limited to 3k it looks like this time. I think that's probably a sweet spot for them. Deciding whether or not to go for this one but I might end up going for it. Shame the 15% off coupon Craft sent through doesn't work for it!
You might want to pass on this one for the boom boom version coming. 😁

I saw that and am torn haha. But The KG is $75 and has extra discs I will never listen to...I do think this is an album that would benefit greatly from the 1 step process and quieter vinyl formulation.

$75 seems a bit steep for this.
It really does.
Pricing is probably because of the One Step being $109. Had they made the 3LP $50 or so, they are kind of cannibalizing their own sales. Interesting strategy to release both at once though.
It makes me more tempted by the One Step because I wouldn't listen to the extras more than once in all likelihood, but I also don't feel like I need to buy a $110 copy. I'd rather just a KG single LP version for $25.

The 3xLP will likely be in a Udiscover 40% off sale or Target Buy 2 Get 1 sale at some point. I agree though--I'll listen to the extras once and that's it.

Ha, whats the chances! I bought a first British pressing of this on Vogue just a month ago at my local carboot sale.

I had never heard the album before but was really blown away by it so I might pull the trigger on this.
It’s a great album. I pre-ordered the one step knowing I have 5 months to change my mind and cancel.

I’m conflicted: On one hand, I’m sure this will sound incredible; on the other, it’s hard to imagine any copy of this album in good shape not sounding great.

incoming MoFi restocks and both AAA!

That Little Feat is worth it for the song Willin' alone. Incredible SQ.
