Definitive Audiophile pressings

Looks like Impex is playing it smart. Since mofi cornered the boomer dad music, they've decided to do us all a favor and go after the contemporary roc...uh...boomer mom market.

I just don't get it....all these companies think that only old retired people (no offense to you old retired folks on here haha) are spending money on vinyl. couldn't be further from the truth. whoever comes in and starts reissuing really high quality stuff for music from the past 20-30 years could probably make a fortune. there's a huge untapped market that, for some reason, people are afraid of entering.

Not that I think they aren't without faults, but doesn't it seem like VMP tries to operate in that space at times? Maybe once they have their own pressing plant online with Gary Salstorm running it the quality starts to rival some of the better plants.

I am under no illusion that they are a audiophile label, just stating I think they are wanting to carve out that market you stated.

The boomers I know don't want to pay $60 for a record. They scoff at these prices.

yea--sort of? and they are making tons of money so it seems to be a decent plan haha. will be curious if they start drifting toward doing more color variants of albums of non-exclusive cuts (i.e. Nebraska, Dylan). I know Nebraska is kind of an exclusive cut but will use the plangent source that was already done.

don't see why MoFi doesn't lean into pressing digitally-recorded albums with DSD source now. We know they can make it sound great on vinyl. and they'll open up a whole new market. I'd guess that they are like Chad in that they are only releasing albums they enjoy listening to...

Yeah I mean the boomers have spending power for sure and I’m not surprised they still pander to them. But like I’m 40. My generation are getting to the point where we’re more able to spend. Not to mention gen x who are older have been completely ignored too. Also because the boomers have fucked the housing market and the pension market and the job market and every other market for us beyond belief we need to spend on shit to dull the pain of reality.

Yeah, I get that too, and I'm in total agreement with the general sentiment that there seems to be an annoying tunnel vision guiding much of the 'audiophile' reissue effort.
I'm sort of hoping that some more labels pop up and ones that do exist start pressing more titles when the delays start to die down. I know IR seems to have a bit of a backlog of titles waiting to be announced/pressed. New Land has been doing some pretty cool stuff but are getting their sea legs a bit. Speakers Corner has been a bit slow to announce new titles...

Not sure if this one has ever come up but this is seriously one of the best Japanese pressings I own. Everything about it is amazing. Deep bass and fantastic soundstage and separation. I'm in awe every damn time I spin it. Like right now. Several tracks are demo quality - Hand To Mouth and Kissing A Fool in particular.

Here's one for you @MikeH ... I'll be interested to hear how this sounds when it comes out. Cut should be excellent as always. But the pressing information only says "Pressed in the USA"... that could mean anything and it's not necessarily good.

not familiar with this band but i'll give it a listen. thanks!

Two of my favorites, color my interest piqued

Nice slice of franco-indie pop. I have the cd somewhere
It's here and it sounds fantastic! Nice little bonus to be on colored vinyl.
