Definitive Audiophile pressings

This is why I want a new CD player. The CD sounds great, I’m not paying a gazillions euros on it and every vinyl version I’ve heard sounds like it’s been pressed not on plastic but on some mixture of treacle and sand.
the ORG is famously great sounding and probably a big part of why it's so expensive now. AAA and cut by BG--supposedly directly cut from the master tapes. I wish I had known about it sooner. haven't heard any CD versions of it.

I’ve owned 2 and they’re both good. I only got the second because it’s a 10th anniversary box thing. Sounds good. I’m not spending a gazillion euros on it or settling for something pressed like shit so vinyl be out of the question.

The vinyl market is becoming increasingly exasperating.

it's definitely one of those albums i would trade for but not buy out-right. i wish ORG could just repress a lot of their titles. this one is long OOP, hence the crazy prices. I think they do excellent work and they have the plates already...hoping they can get a license to reissue some of their stuff. i missed out on a lot.

i'm really glad I beefed up my digital setup. it definitely helps curb the desire to buy certain pressings that I can't afford!

You think ED would be open to trade records for it? Worth a try if you have valuable (sealed) records to trade ?

i actually have this one but for some reason wasn't in my discogs. spinning it now and it does sound quite good. i also got a rip of the ORG SACD so will listen to that one later too.
I'm sure the 45 would beat it pretty handily. But I've been looking for that one for 5+ years and with the price it's at now... ain't gunna happen. When I first got my table in 2017 I could have grabbed a copy for $115 sealed and at the time I thought that was crazy money to spend on a record so I didn't do it. WHAT A NAIVE FOOL I WAS

that has happened with tons of records recently. wish i knew then what i knew now....beck sea change MoFi is the other one i really regret sleeping on. i saw it in a shop 2-3 years ago or so for $115 and didn't wanna spend that on it. the idea of spending more than $100 on a record blew my mind hah

Oh man, out of curiosity I went on Discogs to see how much the Beck ‎– Sea Change goes for.......and now I feel sick.

A few years ago I bought a copy (played once) on eBay for £60. Yodel claimed to have delivered it and we had a back and forth for months - they claimed it was hand-delivered to a 'middle-aged white man' (the most generic they could think of) and were adamant on it until I offered to show them the CCTV from that day. At that point, they decided they couldn't talk to me about it as I was the recipient and not the sender, so I sent the sender the CCTV footage and had him deal with it. In the end, we both had to call it a day and I was refunded the full amount. Screw Yodel is the moral of that story.

Super bitter about it BEFORE I saw it now goes for £180 with listings starting at £260. Typical....
I let out a sigh every time someone mentions the MOFI Beck - Sea Change.

I’m honestly increasingly feeling that it being worth insane money now doesn’t make me think that it wasn’t crazy money back then either…

This may be of some interest to all of you. The linked videos show lots of one step pressings and other pressings I’m sure are in the list of wants here on the audiophile thread.

Not sure if you can purchase online - I always go to the Princeton Record Exchange in person.

Hello from Princeton Record Exchange

Huge Audiophile Collection!

We have just purchased one of the largest audiophile collections we’ve seen in many years consisting of over 400 records and 300 CDs/SACDs.

For those unfamiliar with the term, “audiophile” records are known as much for their sonic qualities as for their performances. They are made with more care than standard issues and usually in smaller batches. They are often manufactured using all-tube recording equipment on high-quality heavy virgin vinyl, and are sometimes made direct-to-disc, or at 45 rpm to replicate the original sound more closely.

The vinyl portion of this collection contains a wide variety of labels, mostly from the 2000’s. It is very heavy on titles from Classic Records including the boxed Clarity series, 200 & 180 gram pressings, and six or so boxed, numbered, test pressings, most notably Joni Mitchell’s “Blue” which was never officially issued in this format.

You can see a short video showing a sampling of some vinyl titles here:

Some of the other premier labels include Analogue Productions, ORG, Pure Audiophile, Acony, Quality Record Pressings, Wilson, Fone, Groove Note, Mobile Fidelity (quite a few “One-Steps”), Alto, Impex, The Electric Recording Co. (extremely rare, and expensive, only 300 made of each), Water Lily, Super Sense (direct to acetate!), Acoustech, Analogue Experience, and many more.

Many of these titles are from very small runs (usually numbered), so very scarce, and quite a few from this collection are autographed by the artists. Prices range from $10 up to $400 or so.

You can see some more of the LPs here:

The audiophile discs are mostly “hybrid” meaning they can be played on regular CD players, or SACD players for higher fidelity. There are around 200 of those in this collection. We also have 80 or so of the sought-after SACDs (Super Audio CDs) which can only be played on an SACD player. This format was established around 2000 to improve on CD quality. While it never reached mass acceptance, it remains a favorite of dedicated fans. There are also handfuls of quality CDs on Mobile Fidelity, some Japanese audiophile discs, and other nice pieces.

You can see a video of some of the CDs/ SACDs here:

The titles are mostly classic rock, jazz, and classical. Prices range from $10 to $100
Please note that these titles are sold first come, first served, in-store only. Many of these pieces are in very high demand, so to be as fair as we can to everyone, no calls or holds please. For those not familiar with us, sorry, we are a walk-in store only and do not handle phone orders or shipping.

We hope you get a chance to visit us soon as we don’t expect this unique collection to last very long.

PREX is the shit. Always solid prices, too. Central Jersey has some of the best record stores on this side of the country: PREX and Revilla. I’ve bought from their Discogs before so some of this might make it on there.

last time this one will be pressed

hot damn! if you can make it there, i may have a few based on that flip video i'd be interested in...sadly i can't make it there this week.

💥💥 🚨🚨 💥💥

KPG@CA in the deadwax of the new Sloan album! Cannot tell from the runout where this is pressed though. So not GZ, Optimal, Pallas, RTI... but my copy is damn quiet for a color vinyl. And sounds fabulous. And a tip-on jacket as a bonus, for those that like that sort of thing.

I have a KG cut and the damn thing clicks for most of it, which really sucks given how much I love the quiet passages
Mine luckily doesn't click. I listened to mine today and it actually sounds quite good. I got mine used and was able to give it a visual inspection before buying it.
