You never know, several of the 80's JP pressings I have are quite well balanced and not bass shy at all... it really depends.

These are from Record City, where I lean more toward their jazz listings, though I'm always willing to give it a go if there's a reasonably priced Japan pressing of a rock album that's a favorite. I've found their EX vinyl to be as you've described Ella's NM--cleaner than some new records I buy. Only caveat is that some of the older jazz records have jackets with a bit of a musty smell. I assume that's a hazard of geography.

Good to know! I've heard and enjoyed Shades of Redd, so I'm looking forward to the set. Doesn't hurt that Jackie McLean AND (on the second and third albums) Tina Brooks are part of the ensemble.

Got some high praise from Mikeowneroftheingroove on YouTube, FWIW. Wouldn’t consider it an audiophile recording to begin with, but I’d be really happy if it sounds good! RKS is a great sign.

I can happily pass on Hissing. I have very good copies, Japanese or BG new cut, of all but Court and Spark and Hejira for which I have the pretty damn good Rhinos. But equally it’s Joni so it will largely depend on how my finances are when they’re for sale.

If they come up now I’m in for 0. At the right point next year I could be in for 4. I’d let Ladies and Hissing slide, neither is a favourite Joni of mine, but the other 4 are 4 of my all time favourite albums…

Do you reckon the slew of releases is in anticipation of the new plant next year and a pile more pressing capability for them?
