Definitive Audiophile pressings

I like it (haven't heard an OG since back in the day, though). Then again, records always seem to sound great when you paid $35 and it becomes worth $450.
It doesnā€™t sound bad at all. Both are excellent and there wasnā€™t much difference in the mastering, but the ā€œABā€ OG is really that good that I couldnā€™t justify keeping a $300 record.

I mean, not like... CRAZY or anything.

Now, most of these are just mildly educated guesses and I'm sure there's gunna be some bright bass shy pressings in the lot. But hopefully they're in the minority. The OG Purple press of Purple Rain just had to happen. Even if the KPG will likely best it.

The T Rex is excellent. I have that exact pressing and quite like it. I think @MikeH got it too.

Will be curious about Rubber Soul... the people on SHF don't like the flag series but the couple I heard were quite good actually. Abbey Road has thundering basslines, so that one is definitely not bass shy.

The KPG Purple Rain is the one I have... it's pretty great but that purple japanese pressing looks like fun!

Good to know about The Slider, I was a little worried about the one. I have both the AP series and the Flag series of Revolver and honestly the Flag series is better in my books. It's a touch softer but the sibilant vocals are tamed and the bass is way more full. Once I heard those two I just ignored the Hoffman complaints because that AP has a lot of issues. And they claim it's better every time. I find this statement to be incorrect. I'm glad to have the AP and it's a really cool raw listen but it's a bit of a mess. I could see the Flag series Rubber Soul being way too bass heavy but it was cheap so I figured why not. Could be a mess but for like $40 who cares.

And with Prince I looked at getting the 2009 (I think) KPG but it was near impossible to find. So I figured why not go with the 84 AAA OG JP purple press w/obi because I just love the idea of it.

What's the shipping to your neck of the woods? It's the one thing I can't get past with Ella--$18 US for the first record and $5 for each additional. Adds up way too fast. Would be $38 shipping for those records you ordered, which is more than double what Record City charges.

Yep about that. But these things arrive MINT. Like I'm talking as clean as an AP you just pulled out of the plastic. And they're like 40 years old. It's no worry purchases and they will refund if there's even a slight issue (I have not done this however they have offered).

I'm really curious about that Purple Rain. I find most of his original releases in the US are pretty lacking in sound quality. It's the reason I've been trying to be on top of the more recent reissue campaign.

My guess? It's gunna be thin and bright. But I had to do it. I have read some reviews that really like it and said it compares favourably to the KPG/Grundman. But I know it's going to have less low end, there's just no chance it won't even if it is from 84 rather than like 68 where the JPs tend to be REALLY bass shy.

In case you get back to wanting a KPG, my Purple Rain KPG is the 2017 with the foil cover, but I think most if not all of the represses since are KPG as well.
