Definitive Audiophile pressings

I swear Karl’s co-workers will come back to work in January to find him semi-conscious at his desk. Hand holding the mouse, trying to send out the last invoice. Delirious from lack of food and water while working straight through Christmas without a break, just so you greedy bastards can get a fancy record. You should be ashamed of yourselves ;)

Revisiting the MoFi 2xLP Kind of Blue today. I love it. Sounds great, regardless of the DSD64. Love how Bill Evans pops on All Blues. Bass is a tad bloated at times, but Miles is just so crisp. Adderley and Coltrane so smooth. Great separation and roominess. Pressing is pretty solid (my copy is #14k), no pops/ticks. Low noise floor even when it's cranked

Anyone got the 76 JP Waits Closing Time and care to comment on the sound?

I don’t have Closing Time but I have Small Change 1976 and I like that one. I also have the JP original Rain Dogs but don’t like it so much.

@Joe Mac has the late 70’s jp Waits and I believe he enjoys those. So maybe stay away from the 80’s Waits pressings until you can hear one and see for yourself.

If it was me, I’d probably take a shot on that Closing Time if you found a nice copy.

Yes I have the Rhino CB pressings that they did for the earlier stuff (the four upto and including Nighthawks) and they’re great. I have the Japanese OGs for the later Asylum stuff and they’re also really fantastic pressings. The usual high quality you get from Asylum 70s Japanese pressings, the Joni Mitchell ones are similarly good.

I’ve been keeping an eye on the JP waits stuff pretty much because of you - and the fact that Small Change sounds great. I have copies of his 70’s stuff but it’s the so-so waits/brennan remasters and i’m looking to upgrade.

Yeah I actually went hunting the Rhinos and then JP pressings because of how much I hate those remasters. I never heard the vinyl, which supposedly was riven with QC issues, because of how wrong the remasters sounded to my ears on streaming. They were more remixes and reimaginings than remasters to my ears!

I can echo that the 76 JP Small Change is really good. That's the only JP one I have. @Mather should definitely get Closing Time as I'd like to know and want to eventually replace this VMP one.
