Definitive Audiophile pressings

Okay I bought the damn Sea Change pressing despite having no idea where it's pressed I hope you're all happy.

The jacket is definitely the EU jacket from 2016. I'll check the rings and runout when I get home to see if it's got the dipped centre ring like most Pallas pressings and also whether it's got the xxxed out runouts like the Optimal from 2016 has.

EDIT- Alright, so it's got Pallas rings, not XxxD out PUSA runouts like the 2016 Optimal but has EU jacket, so it appears to be pressed at Pallas (or maybe Furnace but Made in Germany sticker would seem to indicate Pallas since they aren't going to ship the discs to Germany from Furnace. So it looks like the original US pressing but with EU jacket. Doesn't appear to be Optimal.
How does it sound?

Back when VMP did Odelay, they did like podcast/episode about it because it was a big get for them. I remember them saying that Beck required all his LPs to be pressed at Pallas (that’s why they had to).

I have no idea whether that’s still true or ever actually was - just thought I’d throw some additional chaos in the mix.

How does it sound?
Alright, just finished both discs of the 2022 repress of Sea Change. Other than a very small amount of crackle on one track on Side 1 it sounds very good. Definitely up there with one of the best sounding albums I've bought for $32. I've seen a lot of people online saying it's the best sounding album they own, I don't think it's quite that good but it's very good. I have a lot of albums that surpass it in both fidelity and staging. My only criticism is that the stage is flatter than I had hoped, but that's relatively minor, it's a great master and a great pressing. Highly recommend the repress.

Does anyone have the newest Cure Disintegration repress? Terrible? Good? Stop asking questions you don't want the answer to?

The 2020? I have that one. It's ok. IIRC, a little shy on the high end at times. I'd have to play it again, but it wasn't as good as all the DM reissues. Still enjoyable. I should do some A/B with my Fascination Street original 12" some time just to see. I don't remember the pressing having any particular issues (nothing that came through the music anyway).

Is that the MPO or the TAKT pressing?

$125 seems unusually steep for two albums and a disc of outtakes. I’ll consider this one if/when there’s 30% off option (even then , no certainty) but will otherwise be sitting this one out.

I wonder if this is just a repackaged version of their 2018 box set, but with the addition of the "Sonny Rollins and the Contemporary Leaders" and a booklet?

For what it's worth, I have the 2018 set, and its fantastic. I have since acquired an original 1958 UK pressing (which also sounds great) and there's little between them, so I personally think Craft did a great job!

So an update on the original Damn The Torpedoes I ordered.

I had ordered an original Pinckneyville STERLING pressing, but it unfortunately got cancelled on me. No biggie. Since @Jbraswell mentioned that the Canadian pressing was good too, I ended up getting an original Canadian STERLING pressing instead. And saved a few bucks over the Pinckneyville.

I really lucked out on this copy. There isn't a single pop to be heard throughout. Completely clean. Sounds fantastic too.

I did some quick A/B comparisons with my Bellman reissue and here are a couple observations. The Bellman is damn good. Really doesn't need to be updraded. The Canadian STERLING is better I think. Pressing is definitely hotter and feels slightly more dynamic. Really shines at the high end where it seems crisper and detailed.

Some food for thought though - this original pressing cost me $33 canadian and it's pristine. So if you don't already own a Damn The Torpedoes, it's probably in the same price range as the reissue.
