Definitive Audiophile pressings

I'm one of those folks - I have the Cars greatest hits and thought that was enough Cars for me but bought the Rhino s/t based on the great reviews and don't regret it for a second - it's truly one of the best sounding records I own. So will I drop $40 on a Van Morrison album I hadn't thought much about before? Probably, if it sounds as good as the Cars.

That's similar to the situation I was in. I've owned several copies of The Cars S/T, ended up on the MOFI and sold the others. I remember everyone deriding this new Rhino HIFI line when it was announced too. I too didn't think I'd need another copy then the Rhino HIFI started getting rave reviews so I decided to just go for it (and got the Coltrane while I was as it). It blew the MOFI out of the water IMO so I sold the MOFI. I don't own that Van Morrison - I'm only a passing fan of his work and mostly his early stuff (this album I like). But if it sounds anywhere near as good as the other Rhino HIFIs I'm probably in.

The real difference will be how they sound. People can make their own mind with that information in hand. For now it's all speculation.

Yeah...and that's the rub. It may sound completely unbelievable. or it may sound just the same as a release I already have. The $60 price tag is just a bit steep to take that plunge. But I'll probably still do it.

Chances are if I wait to hear any reviews it will probably be sold out.

EDIT - I just noticed the links here to RHINO HIGH FIDELITY are to the Canadian site - so the $40 US price isn't all that bad.

True, but same dude cutting from the same tape in my experience doesn’t yield wildly different results

Could be. Look, we slagged these Rhino HIFIs the first time around, myself included, and we were wrong. Going to give the benefit of the doubt this time and wait and see. If anyone can improve on KPG, it's KPG with updated gear. In my case, I'm not upgrading anything this time so the decision is easier, but it'll still need to sound like an amazing audiophile record for me to pull the trigger.

that's a Sony title so hopefully somebody licenses it from em to reissue.

I like that Van Morrison cut too (been the same cut since 2008ish). It was done at KG's old studio so I could see an improvement since he's upgraded lots of stuff since then. But probably the price difference probably isn't worth it. I'm still on the fence about picking this new one up....

anybody know any rhino coupon codes? i kinda wanna grab the Aretha red and His Band...

How hard was it for him to get all his new gear to fit in your basement?

I'm the weirdo here not being a huge fan of Van. But I've streamed this album a few times over the years and it has the potential to sound excellent given how layered the instrumentation is.
you talkin bout Word of Mouth? it's got a pretty rad lineup on it but I need to listen to it more before jumping on it.
