Definitive Audiophile pressings

I know this has been discussed a lot in other corners of the internet, but not much here. I recently picked up a Dutch version of the BC13 set. It's been on my Wishlist for awhile after watching Andrew's video from Parlogram Auctions. I can't believe how unbelievable these things sound. They have virtually zero surface noise on them. Unreal levels of inky black quiet...think Japanese vinyl. The mastering is revealing and well balanced.

I have most of the 2014 Mono's and a bunch of the Harry Moss UK 70's pressings. These might be my favorite way to listen to these albums. IMO the definitive Stereo versions. I think these are still great value for money and can routinely be found in excellent condition.

If it says KPG@ATM it's AAA. If it's KPG@CA, it's digital.

Is this always the case? I have a few CA's that I thought were all analog (What's Going On 50th, Bill Evans' You Must Believe in Spring), while a lot of the stuff he did for Matador around 2005ish, which I assume would be digital, is from ATM.

More curious than anything, as they all sound good.

It is not always the case at all. Plenty of stuff done AAA at Cohearant. As @dansomeone said, I’m talking specifically about Moondance.

Correct! I would say that Cohearant does more AAA than digital. And ATM had nowhere near as good sounding setup as Cohearant.

Matador recorded by far mostly digital. Back in the day RTI was their go-to pressing plant and ATM/KPG was the in-house cutting at RTI.

I doubt back in the day anyone knew or cared about the KPG/ATM deadwax on Matador. They were good sounding, excellent pressings.

Yeah those Matador pressings did sound really good. He also did some of the Clientele albums for Merge. I wish he'd do more indie rock, though obviously his jazz pressings are amazing.
He did some cool stuff for Drastic Plastic and awhile ago he did a ton of indie rock. Do wish he would do more non-jazz stuff lately though. But I know all that jazz stuff keeps him busy between the OJC and BN stuff. He’s doing Booker T and the MGs apparently and just did The Meters for Jackpot.

He does what the clients send him.

Completely off topic but I did buy the Vanguard box from VMP secondhand new for $100. Completely worth it double that price. The albums sound absolutely fantastic.

I was lucky enough to grab it in swaps the other month (for $36). The Odetta record was slightly warped, when I asked for a replacement they said they were fresh out so they gave me $50 store credit. So I basically got the Vanguard anthology plus $50 from VMP for the cost of a swap.

I couldn’t believe it when I saw it in swaps but wasn’t able to snag one. It’s kind of what made me start looking for a cheap copy.

I counted 108 titles divided that into $17,250 and its like $159 per title. UHQR Maths! F'n Chad.
