Definitive Audiophile pressings

It's been done, in 2012 and 2013. And very well done.

BTW, the Drake family is not big on supposed audiophile reissues. They allowed it only once, unlikely again.
are you talking about those back 2 black ones? seems like they sadly may be hard to find by UPC alone...

anybody ever hear the Simply Vinyl ones? Any good? I see those pop up every once in awhile.

What say ye for Pink Moon?

This one is best bang for your buck, produced by John Wood, cut AAA by Sean Magee from the tapes. (who engineered the original recording as well) https://www.discogs.com/release/4330457-Nick-Drake-Pink-Moon

Buyer beware though, that one is one of those "same barcode, different runouts" pressings, so get an opened copy and make sure you get the matrix match.

I hear the 80s fruit tree box set one sounds better though if you wanna splurge: https://www.discogs.com/release/1067291-Nick-Drake-Fruit-Tree

Any tips to get a bonafide copy of this without going through discogs? Would prefer a new copy.

If this was possible, I would have done it yesterday
it looks like one of those where it's next to impossible to confirm the copy without the dead wax. reusing UPCs should be illegal!! why would you not want an opened one anyway to confirm playgrading? i'd much rather buy a play-graded album that's 10+ years old than trying to find a sealed one and risk warps or damage.

Pink Moon is *probably* safe, but I just don't trust pretty much any used release because idiots with their Crosleys and Victorlas are destroying them and over-grading. Unless I'm buying in person and can look at condition, I usually avoid buying online.

My only discogs purchase in the last decade is a certain Cranberries record you may be familiar with

easy to communicate with sellers and see if it can be play-graded. buy from sellers with high ratings and lots of feedback. i've been buying on discogs for about 15 years and have only had a handful of issues with play-grading and most were from sellers without a lot of feedback that i took a chance on. ebay on the other hand...much worse.

Guarantee you if I buy one of those Pink Moon copies I’m getting a G+ copy of Adele 30. I have hilarious luck.

Maybe I'll try to find one at Amoeba in a few weeks, I imagine they don't get mad if you check the condition of used records?
Did you say you're staying near the wharf when you come to SF? A small local store just opened a location in Ghirardelli Square, it's a cool shop.

I have the Nick Drake – Pink Moon box set from 2012 and that sounds pretty great, but it's shot up in price. I wonder if the same pressing was released separately?
I have the box sets for all three albums and they indeed sound great. My understanding is the 2013 Back To Black version used the same stampers as the box set and was just sold without all the additional stuff

I am near the Wharf, yeah. There are three stores very close to each other I wanna scope out in addition to Amoeba. This is my list right now:

  • Amoeba Music (Haight-Ashbury)
  • Vinyl Dreams (Lower Haight)
  • Originals Vinyl (Lower Haight)
  • Groove Merchant (Lower Haight)
  • Rooks Ricardo’s (Lower Haight)
