Groove Merchant and Rooky Ricardo's are older shops to do some deep digging, I've never been to Vinyl Dreams but do like the curation at Originals Vinyl. You should definitely wander over to Ghirardelli to check out Tunnel - there's some great restaurants/bars to check out there (Barrio for mexican food/margaritas with a great view, Palette for dim sum, Square Pie Guys for Detroit style pizza) and you MUST go to The Buena Vista for an irish coffee!I am near the Wharf, yeah. There are three stores very close to each other I wanna scope out in addition to Amoeba. This is my list right now:
- Amoeba Music (Haight-Ashbury)
- Vinyl Dreams (Lower Haight)
- Originals Vinyl (Lower Haight)
- Groove Merchant (Lower Haight)
- Rooks Ricardo’s (Lower Haight)
Looks like Tunnel is pretty close (compared to the others) to where I'm staying so I can probably swing by there the night of one of my work things (though I'll probably get roped into a dinner).Groove Merchant and Rooky Ricardo's are older shops to do some deep digging, I've never been to Vinyl Dreams but do like the curation at Originals Vinyl. Yeah, Groove Merchant is in the Lower Haight which is pretty close to Originals (Originals is around the corner from the Painted Ladies)Looks like Tunnel is pretty close (compared to the others) to where I'm staying so I can probably swing by there the night of one of my work things (though I'll probably get roped into a dinner).
I have like 4-5 hours on Monday and a few more than that on Wednesday where I'll be doing the brunt of my shopping. Originals and Amoeba are probably my definite, I think Groove Merchant is like two or three blocks from Originals?
Hoping to also go to Bar Shiru which could eat into record-buying time. Time permitting, would also like to hike some of the coastal trails.
I've only for like 2 days and change so not going to get to do as much as I'd hoped. Between a sick cat and tacking on a trip to see some friends after SF, my stay out west is short lived.
He's 16 and has been dealing with cancer for close to three years now, dude's putting up a hell of a fight but eventually time's gonna run out. I'm not like...happy with it, but as any old pet owner knows: you kinda come to an acceptance at some point. He's given me an amazing life, I can't ask for anything more at this point (though ideally I would love to have him forever).Yeah, Groove Merchant is in the Lower Haight which is pretty close to Originals (Originals is around the corner from the Painted Ladies)
Sorry to hear about your cat
My buddy just picked up that Fruit Tree set on Sunday for 60 bucks because the box was beat up.This one is best bang for your buck, produced by John Wood, cut AAA by Sean Magee from the tapes. (who engineered the original recording as well) https://www.discogs.com/release/4330457-Nick-Drake-Pink-Moon
Buyer beware though, that one is one of those "same barcode, different runouts" pressings, so get an opened copy and make sure you get the matrix match.
I hear the 80s fruit tree box set one sounds better though if you wanna splurge: https://www.discogs.com/release/1067291-Nick-Drake-Fruit-Tree
damn. i have the US one...was weirdly one of the first albums i ever owned. My buddy just picked up that Fruit Tree set on Sunday for 60 bucks because the box was beat up.
I'm sure you are aware but SF is such a small city you just might be able to fit a quick visit to the Castro in!He's 16 and has been dealing with cancer for close to three years now, dude's putting up a hell of a fight but eventually time's gonna run out. I had to look up what the Painted Ladies are lol. TBH, I could give half a shit about it. If I were to do any sight-seeing/touristy stuff it'd probably be going to the Castro (as a gay, that is a place I've been jonesing to visit forever). But time constraints have me thinking it's probably: Lower Haight shops one day, Bar Shiru that night, Amoeba the next day. Tunnel is close enough to make happen though, so I'll add to the list.
I'm hoping to, but all depends. I'd rather fly back to SF some other time than try to squeeze too much into one trip.I'm sure you are aware but SF is such a small city you just might be able to fit a quick visit to the Castro in!
Any tips to get a bonafide copy of this without going through discogs? Would prefer a new copy.
What does JPC stand for lolIf you order it off JPC or somewhere in Europe I think it's pretty safe that it will be the Sean Magee cut.
When I bought it back in like 2018 or so I ordered off Juno in the UK to be sure.
