Definitive Audiophile pressings

Lmfaooo, well I hope you get it! I added a really good pressing of Crosby, Stills, and Nashā€™s self titled. Hbu?
I have a decent Japanese pressing of that one. Fighters crossed that we both get a copy! They had a decently priced Sigur Ros album I've been missing, so that's what I added.

Interesting comment from the RTI plating guy I heard the other day.
He said the test pressings are plated quickly and will have lower sound quality compared to the production pressings.

I heard it on the Westman Dookie video if I recall correctly.
It busted the shit out of Westman's bubble because he was holding the test pressing in his hand at the time.

interesting! seems strange that a test pressing, which is used to approve the production run, would be hastily done or that it would sound different to the pressing run.

I have 6 MMJs. The noisiest one - in fact the only one with any noise - is a tp of Somethinā€™ Else.
TP's are, for the most part, intended as a check on plating before those plates go into production. Generally, they aren't used for sonic evaluations, although MM did send out TP's for evaluation of sound ( I know, I was one who got MM TP's) and - not common to other audiophile labels - would recut based on feedback.

So there are a few MM's where the TP sounds a bit different than the production run.

I didnā€™t know any of that one way or another. I bought it for the novelty at a pretty good price (although more than $40). I sold the few other MMJs I owned bc I prefer 70s RVGs. The exceptions are harder to come by in that form ā€” Parlan/Headinā€™ South; Drew-Undercurrent; and Brooks - Back to the Tracks. That leaves (for me) Henderson - Page One and Morgan - Search for the New Land, which will go if I come across other copies, and I really like the DSD HDTT of Somethinā€™ Else so have no need to find that again on vinyl.

Good to know about the HDTT somethin else. I may do another order there soonā€¦

I had an intriguing shower thought this morning; It would be interesting, informative, and maybe a bit fun to compile a list of things to look for when buying a record. I know it took me a few years to understand what to look for and where to find answers.

We could create a thread and list the best audio engineers and their runout marks, which Pressing Plants, and labels tend to put out the best products amongst other things that someone should consider when looking for a new the best sounding vinyl. Like a buying guide reference sheet.

Obviously, I am not as knowledgeable as a lot of people on here about a lot of this stuff but I thought we could ā€œhive mindā€ it and put together some very useful information.
