Definitive Audiophile pressings

I actually don’t think of him as controversial from a mastering (or whatever) perspective. I thought his rep is bc he’s kind of an arrogant douche (on his own forum, at least) and the forum itself can be insane (but has also been a good resource to me when looking for specific information/suggestions).
SH is not a mastering engineer. In the digital domain, he is simply an EQ adjuster. In vinyl, he is at best an EQ 'consultant' who must work with an actual engineer.

He is indeed an arrogant douche.

The SHF is the place where joy in music goes to die.

Hoffman was first caught stealing Buddy Holly masters and cutting them up. He got fired by MCA for that.

With DCC, there were issues with Ray Charles masters, among others.

By the early 2000's, virtually every major label banned Hoffman from obtaining or handling any master tapes. If a label was using Hoffman, no licensing. If the label found out about it later, the project was cancelled. Audio Fidelity quickly turned to KG, and Hoffman hooked up with a studio engineer who could get tapes (or, more likely, digital clones).

KG is older than Hoffman, but SH hasn't worked in a decade.

He’s probably part of the reason why labels stopped letting labels have access to tapes.

You’re also forgetting that he lied about projects he worked on and about other engineers and when they went on his forum to dispel those rumors, he banned them 😂

Got this in my inbox this morning. Craft is doing a Buy 1, get 1 half off sale including One Steps. Use the code CRAFTLOVERS

Actually, you are right. He is a big part of the reason.

Back when AP did a short Impulse 45 series, it was announced as a SH/KG project. But when Universal saw Hoffman's name, they threatened to cancel unless he was removed.

At one point, further killing any relationship, he stated on his forum that KG couldn't do quality mastering on his own.

Total scum.

How anyone can be part of that soul destroying forum is beyond me.
