Definitive Audiophile pressings

I am not sure how much news like this reaches Australia, but that insane subreddit has cost Mutual Funds here in the US over 70 billion dollars in the past week
Pretty sure you mean hedge funds. Not many mutual funds would short anything, let alone short more than 100% of the total float.

This is gonna be the biggest US financial scandal at least since Enron, and maybe much bigger in terms of the outright, naked corruption and power play that led to Robinhood (and others) halting trading on Game Stop.

Brilliant !

Somebody figured out how to rally those redditors together to buy up as much GameStop stock as possible, blowing up the shorts that those billionaires had put on said stocks. The 1% are furious that regular folks played their own game against them and it's glorious.

Sorry, definitely meant Hedge Funds!

I ordered the Ray Charles. Not sure that I would listen to Gil often enough.
Oh man that Gil Evans is an absolute classic though! Do you just not like it? I’m definitely in for Ray Charles and will probably get the Gil Evans too. I have the 45 RPM but I’ve been getting all of these Verve reissues.

Well look who doesn’t want music direct to have the market cornered on shadiness.

I grabbed this for $50 in December and I think even that was a mark up over the original price since it’s just a single lp 33rpm.

this is a bit worrying. I ordered this for $50 last Weekend, but Acoustic Sounds put the order on hold, with a comment adjusting order.

I also ordered a Dylan Mono mofi, which is now showing as back ordered on the listing (I doubt they will get it back in stock).

I’ve preordered all from the series so far, but I don’t think I’ve got 50% of the titles through. I think Acoustic Sounds are overselling these and can’t keep up with the stock

Exactly! They’ve been selling out big time of all their titles! I never got a chance to really buy that Sarah Vaughan, but then again maybe that was a good thing as they seem to have had a big pressing QC issue with that title! Looking forward to purchasing a copy from the next batch!

You forgot "and post a pic in the What's Spining thread"
I am so excited to come over to your house Skalap! I was reading the Lonely Planet travel guide for Paris and I really want to visit the city sometime in 2023! I can’t imagine how much fun your music collection would be! I would be overwhelmed with joy!!! 😍

Its how I think all records should be shipped. Still don’t understand storing them like that. I’ve never really had issues with ring wear and a certain patina and aging is on inevitable and almost desirable in well loved and looked after things. Life is to be experienced not hermetically stored.
I agree to an extent. I personally buy a lot of older records (1950-1960) and their already aged state makes them more susceptible to ringwear and splits. Knowing that to be the case it makes no sense to put them in a situation that its likely to cause damage. When we are talking about certain older records the condition of the sleeves massively affects their monetary value (more so than newer releases in most cases) and I might be in the situation in the future where I want to upgrade or sell and therefore want to ensure that their value is maintained.

It's kind of like saying that outer jackets aren't needed because the potential marks from rubbing against others adds to their charm and age.

With newer releases, it's not something I always do unless their jackets are flimsy but at this point it's pretty much ingrained in me to do it anyway.

Yeah I suppose I addressed that in a later post. I agree to an extent but monetary value isn’t a motivator for me so much (I only really sell things that I don’t get so the turnaround isn’t that long). As for outers I suppose it’s a difficult balance. It’s a double edged sword in that I was brought up to repect your possessions and the money you spent on them and the work that went into getting, but also because of that things are bought for a reason and to be used and enjoyed. Buying something to sit on a shelf or to collect or to accumulate values is almost immoral to a part of my brain.

The way I see outers as opposed to naked as opposed to bare, in a contrast to storing the record in rather than out of the sleeve plays into that. It cost me money that I work to earn so I don’t want it to get unnecessary wear sat on a shelf rubbing off its neighbours. I’m not using or enjoying it then. I’m happy though that it is going to get cosmetic wear from using it and so I’m relaxed with that, just be careful so it doesn’t get degrading wear. I suppose I just haven’t really encountered huge amounts of new ring wear on my new of older presses, not that it doesn’t exist. I do try not to have my Kallax shelves packed too tight as well which I’m sure helps too!

Edit: meant to say 'Hedge Funds', not Mutual Funds
It’s a bit more complicated than that (it wasn’t WSB alone who did it based on the number of trades happening). And the short sellers kept doubling down thinking the stock would drop again and they could make their money back. At one point 140% of the stock was shorted which should be illegal. WSB became the focus because they were being set up as the fall guy. the hedge funds and 1%ers were complaining that they were moving the markets which is illegal. Yet they were the ones trying to move the markets by putting out fake news that they had all sold their shorts...

the whole thing was fascinating to watch but sadly regular retail stock traders will be the ones to suffer regulations while the hedge funds and short sellers will get a tiny slap on the wrist.

Robinhood is going to be screwed though or at least I’d hope. WSB was talking about how they should all short the Robinhood IPO haha

So any idea if this version is something you can find on amazon or elsewhere?

KPG @MikeH ;)
I believe KG also did the Stadium Arcadium box set!

Just google search the UPC from discogs and you can find a few options

Got the Bellman cut of Television - Marquee Moon and it sounds great. Was hoping it was the RTI pressing but again a case of the damn UPC being the same! I’ve got the two Bowie albums, KG Astral Weeks and Abbey Road 50th on deck to listen to today!

Ooooooh Astral Weeks! I do love listening to that one at night time with a tipple. It suits its wooziness.
