Definitive Audiophile pressings

:( I have this pressing but it's not in great shape. Pretty crackly/noisy.

I hate you all. I have lots of work to do.

Just bought a 1966, VG+, UK Mono for £25

edit - hope it's not to noisy

I just received these AP’s from my local:

Beach Boys- Pet Sounds stereo 33
Muddy Waters- Folk Singer 45
Helen Merrell 3
Pretty awesome, right?

Except they are ALLLLLLLLLLLL warped. All 4 discs. I think they are the new 180g represses and not the older 200g discs. Not off to a very good start with that as far as I’m concerned!

I put in a special order for these with my local so unless I want to screw them over I think I am stuck with these defective discs. This suuuuuuuucks.

Can someone nearby flatten them for you?

Might be worth seeing what AP says even though you didn't buy direct from them.

I mean I'm on the other side of the country but I'm sure I could take care of those for you.

That is a good question. I’m not aware of anyone from here in the Vancouver area. I do plan on getting a Vinyl Flat once the Can/US border opens up again, but who knows when that will be.

Has anyone flattened an AP press before. Some comments on here about records melting lately has me a little weary of trying it.

I have without issue using the VF. It's really key to take temperature measurements and to use records you care less about at first until you get the right conditions. I find that as long as I keep it under 130F and do short 1-2 hr runs, everything is ok (my medium setting is around 128F). Dish warps are the easiest to flatten in my experience.

Yes I've flattened several. They're fine. It's usually random coloured presses that cause issues. I actually just flattened the new White Stripes best of as well, really weird warp and it came out dead flat, I don't think it would be an issue.

You're planning to have it shipped across the border and to pick it up yourself to save on shipping? That's what I ended up doing. I piggy-backed off my wife who was ordering medical equipment and was picking it up at the border for that same reason. The import and storage service fees were a fraction of what we saved (beyond the fact that my wife had to take a 1hr drive both ways).

Well worth it considering the VF is on almost constant use.

Yes indeed! I have a post office box over there and get things shipped to it pretty regularly to save on shipping/import fees. It’s about a 45 min drive each way for me, but I have 2 little kids so a little road trip for dad is sometimes exactly what the dr. ordered.
The pandemic really screwed up my system though. I think I have about 15-20 packages waiting for me over there right now. Mostly records, that are probably all warped and outside the return policy. 😫

Annnnnnnnnd that’s where the Vinyl Flat comes in....
