Definitive Audiophile pressings

Thanks. I was eyeing that one but a bunch of reviews seem to complain about the mono skipping or having noice sadly...I might still take a chance on it though.
I'll spin mine tonight and report back..I never worry about cogs skipping reports... Those people are likely playing it on a Fisher Price table, I've never had a single issue with that on the same pressings.

thanks! i couldn't find a good recommendation on hoffman either when doing a quick search. really bummed the AP is stereo and hard-panned. I almost bought it and luckily looked that up. i have an OG mono but it's really crackly.

I remember that Rhino being well received for people who didn't have skipping problems. I remember them being reported on sh.tv though, so not just discogs. Worth a shot from somewhere you can return to I guess. Let me know if you find a great pressing. I need one too.

Spinning it right now. Honestly it's dead quiet but the mastering isn't anything amazing. Like it's good, warm, but not exactly dynamic. But it's a solid mono sound if you know what I mean. Old school sounding..

Thanks for checking on it. I may hold off and hope that somebody does a really nice mono reissue...

Anyone able to provide an opinion on the SQ of The Who's Tommy issued in 2014, remastered by Kevin Gray?

Thanks in advance.!

Mikey loves it !! , I don't have that one, but I do have 2013 EU pressing, That's pretty good, have to have another listen with my Tube Phono Pre and see what I think, I believe , that the packaging on this is better but Gray's sound a bit better .

:D Gotta trust Mikey! Thanks. I've got a couple of early US pressings I'm going to check out, but I suspect there are better pressings.

They're all so good. Here's the killer for me - I got 100% Fun and Altered Beast autographed through a PledgeMusic campaign, and during the rollout of the releases, PledgeMusic went under. They apparently screwed both Intervention and Matthew himself on the deal. I managed to do a chargeback on my card and get compensation, but the real killer is that I wanted all 3 autographed! Girlfriend was the last one released, and it never ended up happening. Seriously wild experience.
Lucky, I ordered GF too but never got it, nor did I get reimbursed. Even fought with my credit card company.

I have that RSD release too and both the mono and stereo pressings are absolutely perfect. The 7” single that came with it is terrible though. That one skipped for me or had some nasty pops or something, I don’t really remember. I haven’t played that 7” in a long time though. I always go for the mono disc as well but the stereo is solid too. Agreed that’s it’s not a fantastic sounding album. I am nearly positive the mono is a dedicated cut too and definitely sounds more coherent. Not an audiophile recording though.

It's not bad, but I like the AAA Bellman stereo cut much better. Sundazed Mono stuff is usually pretty average compared to audiophile stuff (though I will say the Jeff Beck - Truth mono is really good)
Does the Bellman stereo have the hard panning with vocals and horns? I really dislike the hard-panning...maybe I'll have to stick to a digital high res on this one for now unless I find a really clean OG mono...

I thought the stereo was generally the wrong approach with this album. I the Bellman cut the one to have?

edit - Mike types much faster than me

It might be better to go for an OG copy with this album, I'm sure they won't be that expensive

I believe it's a different recording in general. I'm pretty sure I saw on quick look that it's different performances for the stereo and mono and nearly all stereo pressings are hard panned with the horns and vocals.
