Definitive Audiophile pressings

In general, from what everyone has said around here, it's simply more expensive to get MoFi and AP in europe/UK. Same in Canada too. Since AP/MoFI don't seem to have any major distribution center outside of the US, the prices get crazy. You may be able to find some US stores that have AP or MoFi (Plaid Room Records comes to mind) but I'm unsure what international delivery service they use. Plaid Room, Toad Hall and The In Groove are three stores here that all sell MoFi and AP so perhaps they might be worth looking into. Nobody has the selection that MD and AS have though, sadly, and those two get first dibs on any represses.

I think you are right. When my bank balance recovers, I'll definitely look at Plaid Room Toad Hall & The In Groove.

I should be kicking myself a bit really, because If always thought about buying AP & Mofi, but held off for a few years on the thinking I could get much more music for the same cost. I think the strange thing is the price in the Uk has increased considerably, a lot of outlets charge £69 for a standard Mofi 2 x 45lp. Whereas a year ago I was dithering over £50. I'm not quite sure why the increase, because the exchange rate seems to have swung in our favour.

If I had any money, what I would do is give up the day job and start a Jazz & Audiophile record store, there is definitely a gap in the market :)

Prices across the board have gone up, even here. MoFi 45s are around $45-$50 USD here now. Music Direct has been doing some of the Music Matters thing too where items with very very low inventory have been jacked up in price. Some of the Grateful Dead MoFis now are at $100-$200 on Music Direct.

With the demand for MoFi and AP now, if there's an album that I even think I might want, I try to purchase it (MoFi moreso than AP). At worst, in the US if I end up not spinning it much, I can almost always re-sell for what I paid for it, if not more.

I don't think I can buy from Music Direct or Acoustic sounds anymore. Fedex are just so expensive for international shipping. I bought the Desire super vinyl with 1 other record from Music Direct with 10% off, and have been charged over £60 for shipping, fees and import duties.

I'll still purchase from Deep Discount, but if anyone knows any other US suppliers of AP & Mofi records that don't use FedEx for international shipping, I would be very pleased :)
HHV has a decent selection of AP and MoFi but are quite expensive.

Vinyl Gourmet has great selection but are quite expensive as well and shipping gets a bit spicy as well.

I have and they cost a fortune, but less than when I’ve ordered from music direct and paid shipping/customs.
I've noticed a few times when I have bought records from there that the prices increase over time. Usually they seem to be in line with the Discogs going rate. For example, i got the UHQR Axis Bold as Love mono for £150 and now its priced at £395.

The guy who runs it is also utterly bizarre so if something goes wrong or is out of stock you can end up having some truly mind boggling conversations with him. That said without them I’d be struggling to get my lovely Grado cart every year without buying direct from them in the US so I’m thankful for them for that!

Yeah I had an issue on one of the records I bought from there and he certainly dragged his heels on refunding me. Besides that though I've had no problems and all my orders have been delivered well packaged and fairly quickly.

I've noticed that he ups the price as stock gets low on some items, but I've also noticed that when he does it seems to still be cheaper than the flippers on Discogs.

Do those Ella and Louis and Tea For the Tillerman APs have the filmsy jackets or are they more sturdy cardboard if not tip-on?

I’m so screwed. I challenged myself not to buy any vinyl in November. Already have 6-record order from SOV on its way. 😬
So you've gone from no records to ordering 1 per day essentially? haha

I would never do such a thing!
