Definitive Audiophile pressings

Just listening to the Curtis Mayfield - America & what an awesome pressing!

I've always been tempted by the box set, I'll have to get it now.

Hopefully, Bellers does just as good a job as. "Daddy 'Dr Groove' 'boom Boom' 'the King' Kev"
I think from what others have said at least some of the CB cuts in the box are digital, I think. But I have the box and can confirm it sounds great. I don't have any of the new KG aka "The Franchise" mixes but I'm sure it's at least close.

I listened to this one again last night and really was amazed at how good it sounds for something I paid $20 for.

@Russ I were you the one talking about Eva Cassidy recently?
Yes, and in fact I ordered this box set from jpc around the time I brought another of her albums to the attention of this thread. That $85 is a decent price for a used set with no additional shipping. Thanks for the heads-up!

Simply Eva was the one I'd recommended, but I'm hopeful the 7LP box should be every bit as good (still awaiting its arrival). Eva Cassidy – Simply Eva (2015, Vinyl)

Well how 'bout this for coincidental timing? Arrived a short while ago:

Packaging was perfect, though it's obvious the records are free to move about a bit inside the box. Not too worried about that. With 7 LP's, thank goodness they're 45 RPM or I might never get through them!

For the record (yuk yuk), this was ordered on Jan 31 and was listed on jpc's site as "ships in 1 to 2 weeks if available from distributor." I received a shipping email on 2/17. So a bit over two weeks to ship, then three weeks "in transit."

Damn...I'm still waiting on my shipment from January 26 from JPC! I got a shipping notice on Jan 27...they pretty much told me to give it another month and if I don't have it by end of March to reach out again.

Which pressing of Time Out should I go with: the AP 33 or the AP 45? I don't mind a 45 but if there's little difference in quality, I'll save the $20.

Also best version of Pet Sounds? AP45? Is it worth it get a mono version?
I have the 33 of Time Out and it's very good. I'm sure the 45 is better but the 33 is very very good.

I also have the mono Pet Sounds 45, it's supposed to be THE one from what I understand but I'm not gunna lie, it's muddy and I didn't find it anything special. But I think that may be down to the original mix.

I have the mono pet sounds 33 and agree. It sounds good but not amazing to me which I take to be more because of the original mix and not because of those sweet sweet deadwax initials

Can’s speak to the Brubeck but Pet Sounds is my favorite album all time. I have owned multiple copies and prefer the Mono to the Stereo (Brian Wilson was deaf in one ear and mixed everything in mono as that’s how he heard it) The stereo mixes aren’t bad, they aren’t obnoxious like The Beatles stereo mixes can be. IMO the AP 45 RPM Mono mix of Pet Sounds is about as good as it’s gonna get.

So I did pick up a Dylan mono box at a pretty decent price. I've got 3 mono Mofi's to compare them to (Freewheelin', Bringing it all Back Home, and Highway 61). In the case of those 3, I am preferring the MoFis, but these box pressings are pretty damn sweet. I am happy to have 33rpm options for those 3 now and the other 5 albums are a total upgrade from the random reissues I have of them. 🎧

Also, regarding Pet Sounds if you want a really good sounding mono copy, you can sometimes find a Carl &The Passions “So Tough” / Pet Sounds twofer fairly cheap at local records stores and the Mono disc of Pet Sounds (which is mistakenly marked Stereo on label, but also includes note stating: "This recording is pressed in monophonic sound, the way Brian cut it.") actually sounds pretty great.

Yep...That's the only copy of the Mono Pet Sounds I need. I also recommend people find that copy rather than spend the $$ on any reissue, as they can be found cheap and usually in decent to great condition.
