Definitive Audiophile pressings

Just wanna say, it’s been very pot calling the kettle black with this uproar of supply vs demand from the same crowd who makes fun of people who collect colored variants.

Well I sometimes collect more than one variant also. :-)

In a way this is just another variant. I was prepping the wife b4 I left for work on how, when, & where to get the Small Batch. I sent her the link. (Modern family. She was working from home in her office.). She hollers and says. “This one. It is right here. So I roll into the office. Same title. $22.95 I think. Me. “No. It is the new one on Super Vinyl”. I’m pretty sure she would have been good with the everyday repress.

yes and no. different mastering since Bernie did these but there are definitely other quality reissues of this title. from all accounts, the OJC sounds quite good and so do the VMP and other recent reissues of it. it's not a title where there has never been a good sounding reissue so for those who couldn't get a copy, I'd say pick up the OJC while you can. I do really love the album so I'm glad at least it's getting a bit more love/awareness from those who hadn't heard it before!

Anyone else blown away by the new Pharoah Sanders x Floating Points release? Stopped me in my tracks to be honest, feel like I'm having a religious experience. Hoping that its pressing it pressed well.
Absolute stunner. Loved first listen. What’s the rundown on vinyl? Anywhere I can still get it?

All 3 are stunners! 100% Fun happens to have always been my favorite - probably capturing him at his most power pop, Brendan O’Brien is a stellar match for him. These Intervention releases were like a gift when they got announced! You won‘t be disappointed, @Russ I

Praise for Brendan “turn it up fucking loud” O’Brien. Controversial

Just wanna say, it’s been very pot calling the kettle black with this uproar of supply vs demand from the same crowd who makes fun of people who collect colored variants. Just picturing lawyerphiles continually hitting refresh to try and cop a Supreme drop. Having myself a chuckle, but simultaneously sorry to see there are some folks here who weren’t able to get it.

As a barrister who isn’t keen on the music or the crowd I’m offended 🤪

VMP had a limited to 500 that was pressed at Pallas. There were a few other limited variants but it also has a wide release on black vinyl. You can buy it on Bandcamp and I believe the bandcamp one was pressed at RTI with lacquers cut by Bellers. I think I got the VMP one since they thought I was still a member but of course that one will likely be the last to ship...

Thanks, Mike! Always with VMP - hopefully you’ll have it by the 4th of July 😂

Yep haha. It’s been amusing following some of it on Hoffman. So many people who criticized the price when there’s an AAA OJC copy available for $20 (a totally valid point). But now are complaining that they couldn’t get a copy or that they need to press more. It’s wild.

Craft does seem to be cancelling some so if some of you missed it here, I’d recommend keeping an eye on the site and reloading it every so often (or getting a page monitor). You might still be able to get one.
I gotta be honest, this entire "Thing" is getting old and really just sours me from even trying to get some of these releases. And it's not just the Craft pressings, it's this overall audiophile "feeding frenzy", blame COVID, blame whatever you want, it does start to get annoying especially, as it's been mentioned, now that the shoe is on the other foot so to speak.

It's really started me looking at the "next best" alternative, which there always are, or picking up the CD if I really gotta have it.

Legitimately lol’d at this whole post. Bravo, Joe!

Full disclosure, I’m a guitarist and much of the audio work I do lives in the loud territory. We ain’t afraid of -8 LUFS! (Digitally)

Hahaha! Yeah I knew you had studio experience from what you’d said before alright. For some reason I thought you were an engineer rather than a guitarist!

I have beef. He’s harmed at least one Springsteen album by just turning it up far far far too much. Didn’t so much bother me on the RATM stuff he did.

Totally. And it seems to have bled into every form of physical good - everything from clothes to real estate. This may go beyond N&G jurisdiction, but this frenzied state that consumers have responded with.... not good.

It sometimes makes me wonder if places like our forum contribute to the "problem" in some way, meaning, these pressing we often talk about aren't new to the public, they've been out there, it's just that "We" seem to band together and share our opinions on pressings, sometimes find a common thread (KG) and move forward on it. I say this because there have been a few KG pressing of 70's albums I've had on my list that mystically have gone way up in selling price over the last month or so.

I know we have a lot of lurkers, look at the 1 post Buy/Sell/Trade members that pop up now and again kind of projecting the idea of "Oooh, I have a captive, hungry, willing to pay whatever" group on my hands ;)

I mean demand will exist and if something is worth buying I don’t think that you can blame the people who want to buy it and share the opportunity to buy it with their friends. It kinda feels like blaming the side that isn’t setting the agenda and has no control of the agenda.

Its artificial limitations, heated prices, FOMO marketing and flippers that have my ire.

Either or both depending on what you need me for! 😉

Aw man - I loooooove Magic. Never heard it on vinyl, assuming it’s a pass. That was just the peak of the era. Haven‘t checked the credits, but assuming Ted Jensen mastered? Your gripe may lie more there!

Agreed, but this same group turns around and says "I have every right to buy this product as you do, and can do what I want with it" ......... so it is, what it is, regardless. There's always someone who's going to take whatever, especially if there's money to be made, and taint it for the masses. It's just like a mom looking for Tickle Me Elmo because her child truly loves Elmo and a fipper grabbing it to sell for 4x retail, its the same story, different item/s.

.............I still don't have to like it.

The thing I love about this thread is that is almost 2 threads in one. One is discussing high quality (and priced) audiophile releases and another that is discussing good quality and reasonably priced, though not always, versions as well.

I do love the 2 posts and I can sell to these clowns buy/sell posts. They don’t last too long

I actually don’t own magic on vinyl, just digital but it is LOUD! The Rising is also much louder than it needs to be. The worst offender is Wrecking Ball, which to be fair wasn’t him, but it is ear splitting and but for that I’d really like as an album

Flippers are the only people there trying to buy. The other things are unsavoury sales and marketing techniques. And those techniques act as beacons for flippers...
