Definitive Audiophile pressings

It sometimes makes me wonder if places like our forum contribute to the "problem" in some way, meaning, these pressing we often talk about aren't new to the public, they've been out there, it's just that "We" seem to band together and share our opinions on pressings, sometimes find a common thread (KG) and move forward on it. I say this because there have been a few KG pressing of 70's albums I've had on my list that mystically have gone way up in selling price over the last month or so.

I know we have a lot of lurkers, look at the 1 post Buy/Sell/Trade members that pop up now and again kind of projecting the idea of "Oooh, I have a captive, hungry, willing to pay whatever" group on my hands ;)
I think everything collectable is overheated right now -- but the good news is that companies are investing so much in vinyl right now that there should be high quality releases for 12-18 most...well after demand dies down. I don't envy folks that are looking at discogs as an investment vehicle

The thing I love about this thread is that is almost 2 threads in one. One is discussing high quality (and priced) audiophile releases and another that is discussing good quality and reasonably priced, though not always, versions as well.

I do love the 2 posts and I can sell to these clowns buy/sell posts. They don’t last too long
I'm with you and what I think, at least for me, what makes this topic "valid" for lack of a better word, is that pretty much to a person, if the OG is better, they'll say so, as opposed to the blind following of "Insert label here".

I do appreciate that.

Anyone else blown away by the new Pharoah Sanders x Floating Points release? Stopped me in my tracks to be honest, feel like I'm having a religious experience. Hoping that its pressing it pressed well.
Listened to this one last night and I'm with you. It's not the most engaging listen, so I can see why some find it boring, but it really is mesmerizing to me. There are definitively times I want to throw something like this on and just zone out. Glad to have picked this one up.

you should check out some of Sun Ra’s stuff and some of Pharoah’s other work if you haven’t already. I really love the album Sleeping Beauty by Sun Ra. It’s a bit more dynamic and less one note than this Floating Points album but I have a similar experience being mesmerized by it.

VMP had a limited to 500 that was pressed at Pallas. There were a few other limited variants but it also has a wide release on black vinyl. You can buy it on Bandcamp and I believe the bandcamp one was pressed at RTI with lacquers cut by Bellers. I think I got the VMP one since they thought I was still a member but of course that one will likely be the last to ship...
So I’m seeing both a 140 and 180 gram black listed for sale, including on the Luka Bop webstore. Curious if the only difference is the vinyl weight, or if they’re pressed at different locations. Any insight?

I’m not entirely sure! I’d probably go 180...but not 100% if there’s a difference of where it’s pressed versus the 140. I was kinda surprised that VMP was Pallas but bandcamp is RTI.

After failing the first time around I managed to grab a copy of the open sale but was tight there for a second. Was getting the same greyed “check out” button and kept refreshing until it was red and got a copy with apple pay.

Pumped to have this coming and kudos to Craft for listening to feedback and upping pressings in the future instead of doubling down on FOMO marketing.

Now I'm wondering which KG 70's albums I need to get before the prices get too rich. 😬

I ordered from JPC and got both SC release for around $65 US shipped. I have heard shipping can take a while but that everything is packaged well.
Yea mine took around 45 days to get to me but most of that seemed to be USPS’s delay. Others have gotten them quicker. JPC was really quick to respond to me asking about a shipping update. I wouldn’t hesitate to order from them again. Shipping was insanely reasonable from Europe and their SC prices ended up being cheaper than if I ordered them from most US shops. Also have a huge selection.
