Definitive Audiophile pressings

I asked my local to see if they will be getting any ...I’ll let you know :)
thanks! i'm sure Plaidroom will get some in as well so I have a feeling I'll be able to find it somewhere, but if your local gets it, please let me know! it's one of the only upcoming titles from MoFi that I'm actually excited about.

Both of mine responded saying they ordered some just hoping to get them in now 🍺

Anyone else find the master on the Classics Moanin' to be a little off? The piano just sounds muddy and slightly distorted. Not a pressing issue distorted, more like an old tape or mic getting maxed out distorted. Just doesn't really sound crisp.

EDIT- Well, I'm listening through my 66 Mono version and honestly the piano sounds about the same. So I guess it's just the original recording. I will say though that the horns on my 66 beat this new one. Much crisper. But on the whole, the Classics is well done... If you can find a clean one that's not totally trashed coming out of the sleeve...

I had some noise on mine, I don't remember any distortion, but I did prefer the sound of my Japanese King pressing / mastering. I was a bit disillusioned & then listened to Soul Station, which sounds amazing.

Agree the piano is not the better sounding instrument on my copy. All the rest is sounding really good though. Particularly the drums.

I REALLY hope that second copy of Soul Station I get is clean, because agreed, it sounds PHENOMENAL when it's not buzzing and popping all over the place on side 2...

Well after a disastrous first copy, my second copy of Moanin' is totally clean, still scuffed to all hell but has none of the no fill issues and giant gouges that plagued the first copy. So I'm REALLY hoping this second Soul Station follows suit... if it ever ships...

Grabbing mine over the weekend. Local finally got them in. They still haven’t gotten Moanin’ - was so excited for it, but sounds like the consensus is that this cut isn’t so fantastic as we’re used to?

Well... listening back to my 66 I think a lot of what I'm hearing is just the limits of the original recording. The cymbals, drums and horns are all tight and crisp, the piano really isn't, it sounds like it's almost maxing the mix, like it was recorded hot in the first place so it loses a lot of that natural tone that you're used to on nice jazz recordings. I'll be the first to admit that I'm new to jazz and not familiar enough with each original recording to know which ones are the best in terms of clarity. But I'd say that Moanin', from what I can tell, despite being an absolute classic is not necessarily the best in terms of the fidelity of the original recording, mainly when it comes to the piano.

Soul Station on the other hand is unreal in terms of fidelity. I will keep trying until I get a good one because Side A and 2/3rds of Side B were heavenly, then Satan showed up and farted his way through the final third.

Moanin' may be the most disappointing of the lot, yes. But, as @Mather says, most likely because of the recording's limits. And still it's very good, so I'd say worth a grab, unless you have the fancy MMJ or AP.

So, we talked about the Impulse! reissues from AP some time ago, but I don’t remember if we had the full list. In any case, there was this insert in the recent It Serves You Right To Suffer restock. Or is it an old ad, as most of these titles are familiar but Backordered for some time now.
