Definitive Audiophile pressings

Whether this will be a "definitive" pressing...who knows...but it's certainly definitive music and I see it popping up in a few places but only as a Japanese release (and w a plane ticket price, to boot). Any word on this Detroit mix of What's Going On?

Not info about the mix...I'm familiar with that and it's been available to hear for, what, decades? But on vinyl....is there going to be a wider pressing? Also, I feel like I have the vague memory that this mix was a thing that was available as part of a box set or for a RSD a while back or am I misremembering?

The only Detroit mix on vinyl that I’m aware of is from this box. I’ve got it, but I haven’t listened to it in a LONG time.

The Detroit mix has been on vinyl a couple of times. The Japanese pressing, which is getting repressed shortly, and the Abbey Road mastering, together with the original mix and live Washington show.

The Japanese pressing is fantastic. It is not AAA, though. Still, fantastic. The repressing will be identical.

If KPG is doing it, great, I'm sure it will be good. No idea if it will be AAA or not.

The Japanese repress won't be cheaper. The cost in Japan is about $50, and retailers outside Japan who buy it from a Japanese middleman (the only way) don't get it much less.

It is. I saw the pre-orders a couple months back, but thought of it again today b/c NPR was doing a piece on the 50th of the album. They had some really good stuff and spoke with some people w/ great insight into the times both in a larger sense and for Marvin Gaye himself.
Joe Harley said the KG cut that’s incoming is the “complete” version of What’s Going On so wouldn’t be surprised if the Detroit mix is included. Also the photo the comment was on was of the master tape so I’m hoping it’s AAA...

I received my MBV Loveless Deluxe from Bleep a few days ago. It's a super sturdy tip-on jacket and the record doesn't have very sharp edges. So hopefully it'll survive the journey for you without seam splits or other damage, also, the record fits somewhat tightly in the jacket, so not much play for it to slide around. Also comes in a printed poly lined sleeve, which I've actually never seen before. The artwork printed directly on the paper, nice touch.

My copy is flat as a pancake and completely clean. Dead silent vinyl.

I'm actually curious what plant these came out of, it's gotta either be Pallas or Record Industries. But doesn't have the typical Pallas markings in the deadwax.

I think you need to be careful with the sleeves, my MBV was stuck to the poly line sleeve. Need to see if it cleans up.

Yeah, I could see this happening. The plastic they used on the sleeve seems thicker. Makes me paranoid it'll off-gas as well like a PVC sleeve. I'm going to go put the album in mofi inner right now.

Some good CS from MOFI...I know some had issues w a one step getting photos and/or replacement jackets semi-recently if my memory serves.

Well I had copped a MOFI Nilsson recently, that I mentioned here and in Fresh Grabs. I bought it from a reseller. I got it for $87. More than I usually like to pay but I can eat it cause I'm usually pretty good about not missing the boat on limited stuff.

It can with a pretty good corner bend and a large seam split.

Tangent - props to the Discogs seller. They gave me a partial refund that brought my buy in to $62. I offered them pics of the damage and they just took my word for it. Super friendly and apologetic.

Anyway, I reached out to MOFI w low expectations. But they said to send them images of the damage and one of the number stamp. Seems I'm going to be getting a replacement jacket with the same number. Since I didn't buy from them I'll have to pay shipping.

Honestly I expected crickets since I didn't buy from them. At best I thought maybe I'd get an unnumbered jacket.

They might be changing their tune since there have been TONS of complaints about jacket splits from people lately. Lots of bad press on social media too from what I've seen.

Spinning mine now, it sounds amazing. #441, unfortunately there’s a 3 inch long seam split on the jacket. I’m hoping Acoustic Sounds can help me out with a replacement jacket.

So good news/bad news on my Miles UHQR giant seam split...they are going to replace the jacket with same number but it will be a while (see below)
I'm fine/happy with this solution as the record itself sounds great.

"I did put in a replacement request for a new jacket. We unfortunately won't have the materials for the jackets until after we finish printing the remaining orders. We do apologize for any delay in getting your replacement to you. I'll be in touch when I have more information available!"

This is great news, I have a couple newer MoFis with seam splits, hopefully I’ll have the same luck.
