Definitive Audiophile pressings

Found a copy in the wild of MoFi’s 2012 Music From the Big Pink. Won’t be able to play it for a while because I’m on the road, but it’s a title that seems to have a good reputation. Chalk up more dollars spent to Definitive Audiophile Pressings mania! 😜🍻

I own it, it's very good. The Bellman 45 remaster is also fantastic but to me it doesn't sound like "The Band". It's so clean that I find it loses some of its charm and signature sound.

Nice one! I grabbed the 1982 pressing awhile back. Wonder how different they sound!

Yea not awful I guess. For $230 though I’d probably consider some of the other highly regarded pressings.
Yeah, I'm being irresponsible. I know it's not exactly a loved pressing, but I'm big on clean presses and there is no chance I get a sealed copy of any of the "big" pressings of this for that price. So I'm just gonna be an irresponsible ass on this one and see if I can get it.

Also, it's NIGHTMather bitches. I've been on a patio all day and I'm full of IPA's so you know I'm doing this no matter how stupid it is. IT'S NOT MY MONEY

I personally really like my MoFi of Ziggy. But I paid way less than that not sealed though. And I agree that a sealed copy is nice to have.

The 2012 seems to be beloved too and I think I saw a Canadian discogs seller selling a NM of it for 125 CAD

Okay so I MAY have also found a Greek seller who is 90% sure that he has the AAA 2016 pressing of it and I MAY have also bought that one for like $45 with the plans to have a FIGHT TO THE DEATH BETWEEN THE TWO

Hate to burst any bubbles here, but a record sealed in 1981 may be at quite a disadvantage over one that is open, played and mint. 40 years sealed!!?? If the record was stored in a cool, dry environment and still with the original owner, maybe. But way too many vintage records still sealed have deteriorated in the sleeve. The inner sleeve may have had some bonding with the vinyl, or heat may bring warps. The cardboard can give up paper dust as it deteriorates over time. Pretty big risk shelling out big bucks for a sealed, sight unseen, no way of knowing piece of vintage.

Well I guess we'll see what happens, it is the original owner, but I'm cool either way. Maybe I'll light it on fire without even opening it because I just want to watch the world burn.

But just for the record, you are totally right. I know this, but I'm gunna take a shot on this one because.... I've been stuck in my house for 18 months and I feel like being stupid and irresponsible.

This is entirely why I now own 5 Japanese Stevie Wonder OGs, another U.K. OG and a PrimaLuna amplifier! I really need to get out of the fucking house more! Damn pandemic! If I’m not back in the office anytime soon I’m totally going to end up buying a set of 6mm tonearm shims and one of these decouplers because why the fucking hell not!

It is also why I have no body clock and am foruming at 3.30am!

Just starting now? I've been doing stupid and irresponsible for 18 months now. Not so different than before actually.

What can I say, I'm a late bloomer. But I like this, it's much more interesting than sitting inside and being afraid all day.
I think I'm going to treat this as a science experiment. What happens when you open a 40 year old sealed record? Maybe I should start a pool on here. Who wants to place gentlemen's wagers on what I'm going to find when I open this sealed Mofi from 1981?
Anyone who wants to enter, tell me what condition you think this thing is going to be in. Will it be a taco? Maybe fused to the inner sleeve? Perhaps the dust from the 40 year old sleeve will have ground down the vinyl into a fine paste? Maybe all of the above? Maybe it'll just contain a 1983 pressing of Herb Alperts Whipped Cream. IT'S FUN FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY
First person who gets closest to whatever the horrible horrible truth turns out to be, I'll name my first born after you.

My bet is warped. Badly warped.
