Definitive Audiophile pressings

There was a repress of the 10th anniversary edition of Jenny Lewis - Rabbit Fur Coat, it is cut by Chris Bellman and pressed at Pallas. I just picked up a copy from my local today. Worth seeking out if that's your thing...

Nice! I think Hi-Voltage had like 7 copies in stock when I was in there earlier today, the one perk in ordering through them is Hi-Voltage has free shipping but it seems like it will likely pop up at other LRS here shortly so that would probably be an option too.

I hope so too. But, according to Fremer, sundazed started using QRP with KG cuts around Jan 2012
I think that’s when they started doing a lot of their cuts with KG and at QRP. I’m pretty sure they did some before 2012 with both. Anyway, fingers crossed! I didn’t confirm all the specs with the seller since it was only $25 and said Sundazed on the album itself. The listing had the discogs listing for the KG cut as well.

Well folks, it has arrived and yes it looks completely mint in every way. Not even a single perforation in the outer sleeve is torn. Opening this is going to be like an adult Kinder Egg. Do I get a cool little friction operated car that runs across the floor. Or another fucking Smurf.

Don't be Smurf don't be Smurf don't be Smurf...

Well, I don't want to speak too soon but I'm through side one so far. Record is dead flat and completely mint. I've heard one pop and even that was probably dust. There's definitely a smiley face EQ going on in terms of the the treble being a bit harsh in spots, and the bass is pumped up a bit. But my rig cleans up the bass a fair bit, the separation so far is very good, and much better than the newer copy I had (the digital 2020 press). I'll be very interested to compare this to the hopefully AAA 2016 press I ordered.

But so far this is better than I could have possibly imagined in terms of this appears to be legit totally mint in every way. It sounds exactly like it's supposed to sound, and better than about 75% of new vinyl that I get.

EDIT: Just finished, this is mint through and through. Two pops across the whole thing, no warps, sounds great. So I think I've discovered what I have to do to get clean vinyl. Buy nothing but 40+ year old sealed Mofis.

-endless tears-

Maybe it’s just my system but I don’t find the EQ all that smiley. And I love the separation on that one. Curious to hear how it sounds compared to the 2016!

I just found the trebles a little harsh on some tracks, and the bass is definitely pumped. I didn't find the mids were too bad at all. And the separation is definitely really really good. I'm thrilled with it either way I think it sounds really really good.

Glad you’re digging it! I’m a big fan of that pressing. Mine isn’t NM but still in great shape especially considering the price I paid for mine!

Yeah man, I'm really happy with it. Really interested to hear the comparison to 2016... IF the copy I got actually turns out to be 2016... @marshall grabbed a few special finds yesterday too, I'm sure he'll post them at some point.

I dig most of the early MoFis I have gotten in the past year or so. I think the smiley EQ thing is a bit overblown so a lot of people stayed away from them. Prices on MoFi in the past year though have gone bonkers.

Crazy that MoFi only Ziggy and Let's Dance. But my wallet is happy that is the case
I’ve missed out on a few copies of Let’s Dance sadly. With MoFi, my mind sometimes gets blown when I see they put something out on CD only and never vinyl. The CD list is pretty impressive with some of the titles they released.

Yeah this is light years better than I expected it to sound from all the Hoffman histrionics about the EQing. The clarity is fantastic and the staging is pretty great too.
