I feel like MoFi, AP, and Craft could skip all the big boxes with these UHQRs and other One-steps. Just throw the LPs in a sturdy tip-on jacket and sell them for $60 bucks. That'd be ideal for me at least.
Wasn't there a Neil Young Great Hits One-step that did this and was $50?
But they make major margin from the box and paper inserts. Low cost to produce, adds 'prestige' and 'exclusiveness' to the product, justifying the exorbitant price. At least MOFI don't master by hourly rate and will take as long as it needs to get it fantastic. Better than AP taking old Classic plates and skipping the mastering cost, for a mastering that was considered excellent at the time, but many feel was exceeded after.

Also shelf space. I understand the aesthetic appeal if you are an uber fan of an album but as someone with a finite amount of space one of those boxes are equivalent to like 3-6 albums.
I completely agree with all of you. I feel like the box is something they have added to justify bumping the price up, but actually adds very little to the overall package. It’s a decently made box, but it’s definitely overkill when there is only a single album in there (hell, a single LP!). I’m personally not a fan of the spine either, but that’s just personal preference I suppose.

Box factory guy: Many interesting and important things have been put into boxes over the years. Textiles, other boxes, even audiophile-quality records.
Milhouse: Do any of these boxes have records in them?
Box factory guy: No.
Milhouse: Will they ever?
Box factory guy: No. We only make boxes to ship nails. Any other questions?

My buddy just gave me the 2020 repress of A Tribute To Jack Johnson and I gotta say it's a really well done pressing. There's almost no info on cogs regarding who or where but it's dead silent, totally clean and it's got nice dynamics. I'm guessing it's digital but if so it's good digital. Anyone know what the deal with this one is? Where Sony Legacy pulled this master from?

I have it, purchased in April from AS. My copy has CB in runout (someone on Cogs commented the same). I don't know whether it's on the Quiex SV-P vinyl like the 2005. Regardless, sounds great; extremely quiet -- virtually zero pops/clicks.

yeah I actually entered my on Discogs under the 2004 version, because it matched all descriptions there, and there are not much info about the 2021 version on Discogs. Not sure there actually should be 2 different Discogs entry between the 2004 and 2021 version? They seem identical.

Now I see the 2004 version you're referring to. I was looking at one of the 2005 Classic Records releases, thinking mine was a repress of that b/c I didn't see the 2004 listing. I agree it's more like a repress of the 2004 version.

This might be a question for the Bowie thread, but after picking up a green label Bilbo pressing of Hunky Dory a few weeks back and still being amazed at it, I did some googling. I'm really tempted to go down a Bilbo Bowie rabbit hole.
I'm eyeing up an expensive Ziggy, but could get a 1972 pressing a little cheaper. Even though I already have a great sounding Japanese pressing and the AAA 2016, when I listen to Hunky Dory I think I need a better Ziggy (the MOFI is out of my price range).
Does anyone have any of the Bowie Bilbo pressings? (I'm assuming @jamieanderson1968 has all the Bowie) Am I better chasing these, or going for early 70's or first pressings?
Steve Hoffman site looks as dismissive as ever, but this guy gets it.
It's hard to find a good sounding record, especially when you have no idea where to start. Should I buy a US version? UK? German? Is a first pressing essential and worth the money? WHICH first pressing? Or if there's a better reissue, which one of those? And in the end, will it even
Annnnd now I have a project, go through all of my Bowie records and see if I have any one of these. I have a couple copies of that Bowie Live album they were talking about.
I don't know, Joe. Why does the word baggie make you think of weed?

Thankfully he writes BilBo pretty big in the dead wax. I think many were RCA International presses which have a green inner label, as opposed to the usual orange ones.
