Guessing yes. Still sounds great and, imho, is a great value at that price. It’s a digital cut probably right? I do remember them randomly listing some for $50 and then this one for that price haha. So bizarre
I read somewhere on the forum someone praising the Nina Simone 2xlpAnyone hear anything about this Montreux Jazz Fest + BMG venture? They keep pushing in the press materials as “premium pressings” and MQA/high-rez downloads but I haven’t found anything outside of their own packets. Their first release is Muddy Waters “Montreux Years” from the MJF archives.
For sure. Even some of the digital OJC cuts sound great.Guessing yes. Still sounds great and, imho, is a great value at that price.
Boom Boom alert. Mississippi Fred McDowell "I Do Not Play No Rock'n Roll" Pure Pleasure pressed @ Pallas.
4MWB is probably the most depressing label for me. They have a lot of great titles that I get excited about when I see them in shops. Then when I see the damn 4MWB hype sticker or pressing info...Imagine how much better that sounds compared to the 4MWB version!
I have a few of their pressings. They range from “acceptable” (Agharta, Clube da Esquina) to “some of the worst-sounding records in my collection” (their Allen Toussaint pressings). I previously owned their McDowell pressing but traded it in because of how weak it sounds.4MWB is probably the most depressing label for me. I don't know how many times I have come across a great used record, only to turn it over and see that cursed logo and put the record back. The really aggrevating thing with 4MWB is that they use nice quality covers, often they are Stoughton tip-on.4MWB is probably the most depressing label for me. My local had like 25 of these left for $22 so I picked it up. Indeed sounds fantastic. Is it bad that I might like this version better than the original?Anybody who was interested in the RSD Deja VU Alternates album—turns out it’s a Bellers cut. Sounds pretty solid!
I actually often burn to cd 'alternate' versions of Dylan albums using songs from the bootleg series. Keeps it freshMy local had like 25 of these left for $22 so I picked it up. Indeed sounds fantastic. Is it bad that I might like this version better than the original?
I was looking for a good copy of Southern Nights by Allen Touissant for the longest time and every time I saw one in a shop, it was the goddamn 4MWB pressing. He really needs a better reissue series done. Their Funkadelic pressings are awful too I think. I don't even bother buying any anymore. I paid around the same I think. I'm surprised it's so readily available still--thought it would have been a more popular title. Guessing a ton were pressed (oh yea...looked it up and they pressed 20K so that's probably why so many are still available). I threw it in an order with others to hit free shipping and it ended up being one of my favorite releases that I got.My local had like 25 of these left for $22 so I picked it up. Yeah, this one has really surprised me. Much like the Alternate Rumors, I enjoy these "alternate" albums to the gimmicky outtake albums where you get three demos of the same song back-to-back. I'm actually enjoying some of these alternate versions to the original (Almost Cut My Hair has a killer jam!). Packaging is top notch, too.I paid around the same I think. I never picked up that Alternate Rumors album but might check it out. I have Almost Cut My Hair on now and it's so good. Bellers did a great job on this.Yeah, this one has really surprised me. Would love to see some of your selected tracklists!I actually often burn to cd 'alternate' versions of Dylan albums using songs from the bootleg series. Keeps it fresh
Sadly it seems most copies on discogs are only available in Europe or crazy prices in the US. I'll have to try to track one down one of these days! The Alternate Rumours is fantastic, I was so surprised by the different approaches taken on each track.
