Definitive Audiophile pressings

Re: that CSN title, while I suspect the One Step will be divine, I can recommend the 2009 Rhino mastered by Grundman from original analog master tapes. Sounds great with lots of separation and wonderful voice placement. Listening right now.

Yes, I have this pressing and it is indeed nice. I've "regretted" (in quotes 'cause it's not ever a big regret) some One Step purchases because I already had some great pressings and, while the One Step was certainly great too, the previous pressing met my needs and the One Step was an added cost and they take up a good chunk of real estate. For example, Yes' Fragile. Fantastic album for which I already had a good pressing. Yes, the One Step is great but it's also 45 RPM (so more flipping - I don't actually mind this but it is still a consideration) and, again, came at a higher cost and a big 'ol box. Of course, this will all depend on the individual and how highly they regard an album. I love that CSN album, for example, but I love it to a level that is met with the pressing I have. For some, it may be a whole other level type album where they want that whole other level pressing (although I will argue that the One Steps don't necessarily always make such a big leap - if any at all - from other pressings and some will buy them just based on the accompanying glow around them; for example, I have a lot of the Davis MOFI's, to include the Bitches Brew and Sketches of Spain - vinyl & SACD for both. Do I think the One Steps would be a worthwhile purchase for me? Not really [although that may not stop me in the end 'cause I'm a sucker]. Do I think they will be a worthwhile purchase for those who missed out on the MOFIs from a few years ago, given the current secondary market rates? Absolutely!).

Yeah I have the Grundman. It’s solid, though a muddy recording to begin with. I’m excited to see what MoFi can do with it at 45 rpm and one-step mastering

I don't know if it's been mentioned on here yet, but The Church "Starfish" from Intervention Records is absolutely spectacular. I actually emailed Shane (The guy who basically IS Intervention Records) just to tell him how incredible it all sounds. I would love to hear what he could do with some bigger licenses. Stunning sound on this one.

I really need to get around to buying that.

Yes, yes it is. Glad you could get a copy.

I've been listening to BB for about 40 years, listened to the whole thing the other day , love it when it's raining or during a storm.
Without exaggeration, I'm 2-5x a month -- more if I'm having to do a lot of writing or spreadsheet work. (Though that's headphones) I'm at least once a month at volume right up until my wife walks in...

Side benefit: she now hears Jack Johnson as closer to "accessible"

Yeah, so much going on, easy to get lost in the music . It's like everything- after listening to something for many years , you listen less, but every time i put it on, i really enjoy the journey . I remember when the Complete Bitches Brew metal box CD came out, I went up to my girlfriends place that weekend and it was raining all day, a couple of friends came up and they went out, I listened to that thing all day and all night !!😂

I just got off the phone with Music Direct. While the service rep was friendly, I could tell he was beyond frustrated at the paranoia about not being able to get a Bitches Brew. As he explained, "we have 8 guys answering phones, they're pressing 7500 copies, there is no way we're going to sell out before it's announced". He said the phones have been ringing non stop the last 3 days, some people calling multiple times a day to add stuff to their order, adding to their frustration level. I ordered my two records, I did not make him read me the list of stuff, and thanked him very kindly for taking the time to take care of me.

Yeah, I’ve been meaning to call but I’m going to wait a week or so to let the hype die down. It’s gotta suck for them.

I feel for them but also, this is how they choose to conduct their business. If vinyl preorders are overwhelming they should not take vinyl preorders over the phone.

I agree, but I don’t think the decision lies with the ones taking the phone calls all day long.
Yeah, I get that. Still it’s not great business sense to enact a policy that stresses out your staff, which in turns causes terse interactions with your customer base. The comments here alone make it sound like the calls have people either feeling like they need to walk on eggshells or that they were bothering the person on the other end. I am just suggesting that what was likely done as a courtesy initially for some diehard MoFi collectors is now became so widespread that it’s effecting their customer service reps which in turn effects their relationship with their customer base. Seems like an easy fix would just be to eliminate the ability to call in pre-orders prior to the album sales going live online.

I called back and asked to speak to the slacker who's not meeting his 100 Bitches Brew a day target. I fully expect the team to sell out in a week after my pep talk.

edit - great movie, sampled to great effect by Steinski- Greatest Man Alive (Man's Game mix)

1000% agree.

It's looking like the following restocks at MoFi are imminent:

Carole King - Tapestry (regular MoFi)
Bill Evans + jim Hall - Undercurrent
Bill Withers Greatest Hits
B52s Wild Planet

Tapestry is an interesting one, I think the regular motif would be fine. I keep on thinking I should maybe order the One Step but so far have been surprisingly sensible

i have tapestry one step on preorder from target since i got it on sale for around $80...but i might end up buying the regular MoFI and cancelling the Target (or hell...target may cancel on me anyway).
