Diaper Baby Escape Plan
Well-Known Diaper Baby
Yes, I have this pressing and it is indeed nice. I've "regretted" (in quotes 'cause it's not ever a big regret) some One Step purchases because I already had some great pressings and, while the One Step was certainly great too, the previous pressing met my needs and the One Step was an added cost and they take up a good chunk of real estate. For example, Yes' Fragile. Fantastic album for which I already had a good pressing. Yes, the One Step is great but it's also 45 RPM (so more flipping - I don't actually mind this but it is still a consideration) and, again, came at a higher cost and a big 'ol box. Of course, this will all depend on the individual and how highly they regard an album. I love that CSN album, for example, but I love it to a level that is met with the pressing I have. For some, it may be a whole other level type album where they want that whole other level pressing (although I will argue that the One Steps don't necessarily always make such a big leap - if any at all - from other pressings and some will buy them just based on the accompanying glow around them; for example, I have a lot of the Davis MOFI's, to include the Bitches Brew and Sketches of Spain - vinyl & SACD for both. Do I think the One Steps would be a worthwhile purchase for me? Not really [although that may not stop me in the end 'cause I'm a sucker]. Do I think they will be a worthwhile purchase for those who missed out on the MOFIs from a few years ago, given the current secondary market rates? Absolutely!).Re: that CSN title, while I suspect the One Step will be divine, I can recommend the 2009 Rhino mastered by Grundman from original analog master tapes. Sounds great with lots of separation and wonderful voice placement. Listening right now.
