It’s still very open to the public though and they have done this for years. Anybody can call to order. People tend to be too lazy to do it though haha.
The one steps will all be in pretty large numbers (if they all ever get pressed). Between individual buyers and wholesale purchases, they can move 5,000+ of these easily. I bet around 500 are maybe sold in phone preorders but the large majority are wholesale and online orders once they go live. Tapestry is supposedly sold out already since they posted the link online close to a year ago, and they did 10,000 on those.
I have a feeling that Bitches Brew is going to sell like hot cakes especially since it’s a 33. I could see it easily selling as quickly as the UHQR of KoB did.

I see those Motown in Mono LPs that Kevin Gray cut a couple years ago (AAA in tip-on stoughton jackets) are finally up for preorder on Acoustic Sounds and Elusive Disc at least. Some good records in there: Temptations, Four Tops, Miracles, Supremes, Marvelettes. $35 a pop.

Just got off the phone with Music Direct. They sounded stressed. But, I’m inclined to give them a break. It was all about the One Step preorders. Going very strong.

this happened with the eagles preorders too. they sounded almost annoyed that so many people were calling haha. i think it was because nobody gave them a heads up that time and just got flooded with calls. the guy was relieved that i was actually calling to preorder something else.

I really don’t understand how MoFi/MD works. There’s all these rumors and you can pre-order titles years in advance that they’re not even sure will come out, nevermind when they come out. I’ve seen rumors for years of this or that release and yet no one even knew about The Eagles until they were practically ready to ship this summer. Who is leaking this information? I mean they cannot love the amount of calls that must be coming in every few minutes to pre-order stuff that doesn’t even have a release date. It’s honestly mind-boggling that they put themselves through the ringer like that. It just doesn’t make any sense to me.

They aren't rumors and it's not really a leak. MD tells distributors/wholesale buyers what titles are supposed to be coming out. That is how this whole new list became available--someone posted on facebook that their distributor told them these titles were coming out via MoFi. A lot of these titles will probably be in the upcoming catalogue as well.
The sales people seem to hate it, especially with the Eagles because nobody even told them that the titles were coming out. But it likely helps them gauge how many to press in some cases. It also means that with the preorders, they will have a large influx of cash coming in as soon as any of those items are pressed. They need to keep announcing titles too even with the delays to keep people interested + keep demand up I'd imagine.

Still doesn’t make much sense to me. Their going to make the same amount of money at the same time since they don’t charge until an item ships, and they’ll all sell out either way.
There just doesn’t seem to be any organization to it. Sure, it’s nice to know what’s coming down the pipeline but what’s the point in even giving a list to distributors if there’s not even any dates? Idk, just seems like they create unnecessary stress for themselves.

So, tried again & got through with no queue. Ordered Bitches Brew, but he insisted on listing all the One Steps, so I ordered Sketches of Spain as well. (I'll probably cancel Sketches of Spain to avoid shipping charges).
He knew I was calling about the One-Steps before I said anything, also said they had been busy with calls from all over the world.
