Definitive Audiophile pressings

What’s your most random or surprising Kevin Gray pressing? Mine has to be a three way tie between Weezer’s Green Album, Sublime, and Enema of the State.
Shabazz Palaces. This album rules and can’t recall KG cutting much hip hop

Shabazz Palaces "Black Up" stands out for me as being completely different than the others.

Same, those all sound great.

It seems like Kev used to do a lot more Indie Rock and Alternative albums than he does today. I have KPG cut records from: Bon Iver, Songs: Ohia, CCS, But To Spill, Cat Power, Pavement, Death Cab For Cutie, Destroyer, Jens Lekman, Guided By Voices, Jenny Lewis, Rilo Kiley, Green Day, New Pornographers, Sufjan Stevens, and Sonic Youth
Yet none of them were probably cut in the past 5 years and most are probably cut more than a decade ago.

That Destroyer "NIghthawk: A seduction" really stands out for me. That pressing is the only way to listen to that album for me now. Sometimes I just want to put it on because it sounds so good.

This finally made me pull the trigger on it. Been eyeing that one for awhile. Hopefully it’s the same pressing! Merchbar has it for something like $12+ shipping now

That one sounds so good.

I like to think that KG has a sliding scale. He charges more for mainstream stuff and less for his indie work, though probably not the case. I want to ask him how he got hooked up with Drastic Plastic doing less well-known reissues of 80s punk and college rock. I just saw on their website they are reissuing The Damned's Phantasmagoria in June.

You’re probably right about this! Often budget just comes down to exactly that, who you’re working with on the release and what they’re able to do. Virtually all engineers I know will take less to work on something they’re passionate about, and often the ones they’re passionate about have smaller budgets! You get the idea.

Albini is very public about doing exactly this. Small broke punks? Free or at cost. Nirvana or pixies flush with major label cash? $100k+

Spinning the UHQR I bought when Mather wasn't looking. Okay the Family copy is definitely very good, but this kills it. I mean it's obviously going to vary depending on system and I'd say that this definitely benefits from having a higher end system but fucking wow man. This album isn't supposed to sound like this.
Okay NIGHTMather might have been a LITTLE hyperbolic when he posted this at 3 am, it sounds very very good. I'm not sure "KILLS IT" is really the correct take. But it's really really good.

The image of KG vibing out to Shabazz Palaces makes me laugh. But that album is so good. He did a great job on the cut

Reviews on the Relaxin One Step.
Certain folks systems are not handling the sound very well??

Distortion unless you have a mono button on your amp??

I have no mono button. There’s no distortion on mine. Some people may have gotten a bad batch and saw others recommend slightly lowering the tracking force and that seemed to work
