Definitive Audiophile pressings

How does this work through cogs though?

Whenever I buy internationally from cogs, they automatically add 20% tax after I've committed to buy.

On cogs, and I know this because I’ve sold a few to the uk recently, as a seller when that happens it generates customs documents to say that you’ve already paid vat. You stick them to the front of the package and you should get no extra charges. As a seller in that instance you have no opportunity to declare an amount because discogs have used their account with HMRC (or the country they are registered in for the EU) to charge VAT at the point of sale so if works exactly the same as a domestic transaction in a shop would.

this has been mentioned before, but there's a cheapie CCR Cosmo's Factory that was pressed using the AP plates. Nobody really knows how it happened (Chad seemed very clueless about it surprisingly considering they used AP plates and pressed at QRP):

You'd want to confirm the runouts if you're buying used. Forget if it's an instance where the UPC matches another pressing. I got mine on Amazon last year for about $20 shipped and it was the AP plates. Sounds fantastic.

Yeah, Concord did this a few times where the existing DCC or AP plates were at RTI and they just reused them instead of making new masters since I guess they owned the plates technically somehow. Happened with the 2 CCRs and several OJCs.

which other CCR had DCC/AP plates?

Sonically I think the AP Bayou Country is superior to the Cosmo's Factory too but it might be just a superior recording. My Cosmo's Factory is a little warped too, maybe that effects the sound a bit.

I agree, I never thought Cosmo’s was recorded well. I have both of those AP metalwork reissues from 2014, they both sound good. But I’ll give the nod to Bayou on sound/recording quality.

I have no idea how or why but outside of orders within Canada I don't think I've ever been charged tax or any sort of additional charges that are visible on the invoice.

I think that with the implementation of the new rules for the eu, and the uk having almost a mirror of them, in July last year the likes of cogs probably decided it was easier to enter the ioss system and charge at source. Maybe Canada isn’t as strict on its rules or perhaps isn’t on that same page technologically speaking.

Well considering that once again the stupid Cogs app doesn't work I'd say they are pretty lacking in the "technology" side of things.

The app is a nightmare, the site is usually better. That said the system allowing websites to collect eu/uk vat directly despite being in another country is rule by the customs people not the websites themselves lol.

It is a weird area. In Canada you can import through mail order up to $150CDN (don't quote me) without the purchase being subject to duty, only the GST tax. Because Canada Post is not allowed to collect a fee when collecting a tax, they cannot be bothered to collect the tax for 'the man' since it would cost them too much to do it. But courier companies can charge us a fee to collect taxes. This is why you will get charged $25 by DHL (or whomever) to collect less than $3 in GST.

Or in the case of FedEx this week, $63 in Fedex fees, and $27 in taxes.

Yeah it’s similar here. VAT, which is the same thing as GST, is chargeable from €0 but customs doesn’t kick in until €150. An Post used to be similar but there was a tightening of the rules at EU level last year and since that nothing has got through even though they make a pretty significant loss for each parcel because they’re only allowed to charge €3.50 as their fee.
