Definitive Audiophile pressings

I'm not sure if they would be called "Definitive Audiophile pressings", but I have acquired all the recent half-speed cuts of the Roxy Music releases - and will be having a marathon of them sometime soon in the spinning thread.

I haven't listened to them all as I was waiting for the debut to arrive - it was my last ordered as I thought the recent Steven Wilson mix would be good enough, but I heard this one is better.

We will see.

To be honest, I really don't know the town and I'm a mid-west transplant, but it's what I hear around here.
Yeah, We’ve talked about our common IIllinois roots. Tacoma isn’t as supposedly bad as it was back in the 80s but it’s still a bit rough around the edges. Locals like to play up the gritty image in hopes of keeping Seattlites and California transplants away but it’s a pretty decent city overall (I mean, it’s way better than Peoria or Springfield or Bloomington; not that is much of chore).

I've heard good things about these. Looking forward to your take.

Let me know. That's the only one I haven't ordered because I like the Steven Wilson remix too, but the others have all impressed me. Still have Flesh + Blood to listen to though. I think For Your Pleasure sounded the best on initial spins.

I like the recent half speeds. I didn't replace my Wilson mix of the debut, but that's mostly because I try to only replace albums I have issues with (or can resell).

Hey now, I was born in Bloomington (IN) and live in Springfield (MO). Don't know Peoria, can't vouch for it.
Graduated from SMS, now MSU, in 1973. What an exhilarating time in so many ways. Being a hippie there, the buckle of the Bible Belt, at that time was dangerous but fantastically rewarding with pot highs made all the better because it was SO illegal. Legalized pot in current day Colorado isn’t nearly as much fun. 😎

Ah yes, it's a nice town, been here nearly five years now. I work a few blocks away from the campus. But I gotta disagree, the illegality caused stress for me at times.
Mississippi?
Haha, are we going to revisit the Pavement - Box Elder lyrics debate?
MO! Like @dansomeone. Heat in “Sprangfield” MO is killer enough. Can’t imagine Springfield MS heat. I think every state in the Union has a Springfield including wherever the Simpson’s are located. 👍
Omg it's been a brutal summer. So hot and humid, yet no rain. The worst in my 30+ years in Missouri.

I love Springfield and could live there in a minute but my dear wife would expire in the heat and humidity. If I didn’t love her so much…
Remember, I was in my late teens and immortal and the Green County sheriff’s office couldn’t catch me, or so I thought. Spent one night in the hoosegow and it was scary. Not scary enough to scare me straight, though. Wonderful game of cat and mouse that seemed to give me purpose at the moment. Probably wouldn’t change a thing.

I initially thought Michigan State University but the Bible Belt made me reconsider (and I still guessed wrong). Too many “M” States.

Also, I missed the “Box Elder” lyric debate. That sounds like fun though attempting to suss out where the heck Malkmus is heading at the end of the song?

The correct answers is anywhere but here, but Box Elder is in Montana. I am sure SM knows this I assume he just liked how “MO” sounded as opposed to “MT” and since it doesn’t really matter he went with the abbreviation that rolled off the tongue better.

Also, I still need to pick up the recent Matador reissue of Westing (Musket and Sextant)

Google Mickey Owens as sheriff not baseball player. He was both but I was around during his redneck sheriff days in Springfield. My dad participated in his baseball camps and went on to be a NY Yankees prospect. I, on the other hand, was a deplorable liberal college student during Mickey’s reign as sheriff. To repeat, I wouldn’t change that for anything.
