These are older MoFi releases so I doubt in this particular instance that is why they were sold off but I guess if you are treating records like investments MoFi would probably be in sell off territory.
100, it was listed as VG++Omg how much did that set you back?
Selling old 80s MoFis doesn’t really have anything to do with the MoFi digital news. These are all priced at market value. If anything the demand for those 80s ones are probably higher now since they weren’t digital…could this be the first fallout of the mofi digital news?
My guess is that venn diagram is actually not that small (middle aged guys, Black Flag fans, Steely Dan fans)Hell yeah! lean into it. I just purchased this shirt…

I have seen more one steps popping up on discogs though. And some prices of the later MoFis have come down.

the late 70s mofi is really incredible sounding too but haven't heard an OG to compare!I think it would be hard to top the OG Waiting For Columbus. Probably one of the best live rock records of the 70’s and the vinyl pressing is superb. It sounds especially good turned up loud. I have a clean LA pressing so I’m tempted to pick up the reissue but I really don’t think it can beat it.
Interesting to see more and more MoFi details coming out on their site about what records are sourced from what.
Looks like James Taylor One Step isn't happening soon based on this:
James Taylor - Greatest Hits
Mastered from the original analog master tapes and pressed at RTI on MoFi SuperVinyl. The Miles one steps seem to be from DSD64, which I'm guessing is the same as the earlier MoFis they did. Wonder if it's the same mastering or if MoFi did anything else to them...
I wonder if they place a “pause” on future releases so they can see how the fallout effects sales. If DSD transfers end up not selling as handily as before maybe they reassess how they proceed going forward?Interesting to see more and more MoFi details coming out on their site about what records are sourced from what.

potentially...the One Steps are likely to be hit the hardest from the DSD news. Although I find it funny because the One Steps still sound incredible and better than their non one-step counterparts that MoFi did, even the ones like Dylan Blood on the Tracks which was from DSD64.I wonder if they place a “pause” on future releases so they can see how the fallout effects sales. It's a bit of a PR battle now. Logically, if you hear some of those One Steps, you wouldn't entirely care whether it was DSD or AAA source because of how awesome they sound. But then you're dealing with a lot of people full of hubris who thought for years they could tell the difference between digital and analogue sources within seconds of the needle dropping.Pure speculation on my part here but this is what I imagine is likely.
I think the problem there is Sony. MoFi, unlike the other audiophile labels, have done a lot of Sony, and probably more importantly continue to do a lot of Sony. Sony absolutely won’t let the tapes go off site anymore. Given how those artists are historically MoFis biggest draws it would be a huge loss to dispense with them. I think they’d see getting to go to Sony’s site and make their own DSD 256 master with their own gear as being a smaller concession than getting a Sony made DSD transfer or a Sony tape copy.
For other labels they may be forced into a rethink but we will see. They seem pretty committed to this method and the results have been pretty spectacular.

it's going to be interesting to see the long-term implications and effects of their use of DSD. I know a lot of people are cancelling orders now because they felt lied to. But when those next one steps come out and still sound great, I wonder how many people will end up buying the One Steps.
I still posit that one steps don’t matter with digital sourcing. You can make as many plates/lacquers as you want, so who cares?
You're still eliminating a bunch of steps in the vinyl manufacturing process though...you're not making a father then a mother then stampers.I still posit that one steps don’t matter with digital sourcing. You can make as many plates/lacquers as you want, so who cares?
