Discogs - Help, Tricks, Secrets And Tips

There's also almost a whole page of argument about how the color should be displayed for good measure.
Looks like a repress to me....at least that's how I'd enter it if it was my sub. Using the same GZ "215006M" from the 2020 release shows that it is a repress of that plate

Colors can be tricky....go with what it looks like or marketing color.

Marketing colors can be so off of what is actually released, that I usually go with what it is actually released as.

Looks like that user can't understand what a repress is.

If anyone else wants to chime in feel free.

Update on the selling some stuff on Discogs experiment. I drastically reduced all the bullshit in my sellers terms after stalking a few of the forum peeps who were selling stuff. I think in the beginning I was just trying to make things way more complicated than they needed to be. So far I've had some success on some pretty high dollar items and have already had to pay the man his fees.

My next question is how to approach a message I just received for a record that didn't have a "make offer" option but someone is still making an offer. It's still a fair price but I don't know how to make their price work. Do I just relist for their price with free shipping? Do you think they included their own taxes into consideration? What would you do?

I would just enable the "Make offer" option on that item. It's as easy as checking the box on the edit listing screen. That way everything is through the proper channels.

Thanks. I was wondering if it was as easy as that. I guess I'll just let them know I am switching it over to that option.

When I get an offer on something, I usually go off Discogs to skip the fees 👀

I realized I executed the "update Paypal address" move wrong. I should have had the buyer check out on Discogs without paying and then send them an invoice. I instead just invoiced them directly.

The best advice I can give from my 100 sales, is pack records like you want to receive them (I use 2 filler pads on all orders) and I grade everything VG+ or lower. I don't want to mess around with the nitpickers on corner dings.

i feel like you're probably just having a laugh, but the answer is: absolutely.

No, not really. It was a legitimate question. I guess I don't see how they would know you went off Discogs to make a deal? Do they read the conversations or messages when you sell/buy stuff? 🤔

I get getting banned if you are messing up listings or putting up fake/prohibited images up on the server, but how would they know about you making deals outside of their page?

I feel like the most viable way it could occur, without Discogs spying on conversations, would be if a seller asks to take it off platform and then either screws over the buyer (forcing to Venmo and sending an unsuitable item or sending a fraudulent item all together) or if they can't come to a deal and the buyer reports them out of spite. I could see that happening I guess.

Just be aware that your account could be shut down at any moment. All it takes is one customer or potential customer to report you, for any reason that makes sense to them.

If you have a lot of positive feedback, it might be worth paying the $4 fee on a sale and keeping your account you've built up. If you're an infrequent seller or your feedback isn't great, it seems like it'd be less of a bummer if you got shut down and had to create a new account.

What's the deal with this seller's pricing?
Really high prices, but "FREE SHIPPING!", so it evens out?

Seriously, they tout that they are "Discogs’ longest running vendor – since 2007!" and they have over 196,000 items for sale. Yet they have only 341 ratings. Seems off.

It's interesting...if you go into most of these, there's usually one other seller with a noticeably lower but still huge price in a different country. i almost wonder if the model is if RareXports, if someone does order, just takes the order from the one of the other accounts (Firstlinedrop is all over it as is Ozzie1234.) or maybe they're the same company. Most of these have no other sellers or are actually rare variants, just at huge prices.

Under the old system international shipping as a general rule required quotes before orders were placed. Under the new system you should have a policy(ies) established for your international audience so that an order is automatically calculated. which is great if you've been keeping up with shipping cost increases by updating your policies regularly. If you're like me you set them up back when it was first required to do so and never looked at them again and then you get an order from an international buyer and eat a $12 shit sandwhich because shipping international is roughly double what it used to be.

Just checked my shipping policies for overseas, bumped them up by $1, they were pretty close.

This is a great page to do quick calculations in lbs, except Discogs policies are set in grams.
