Equipment Recommendations - The Home For New System and Upgrade Advice

Agreed. The thing is at the end of the day, there’s nothing @MikeH can do. He has two circuits. One for everything but AC and one for the AC.

One for everything but AC sounds really messed up. I’ve never seen a circuit breaker box with 2 circuit breakers.

The best he can do is isolate the cause. The fix is moving.
Yea—it’s a townhouse from the late 1800s. The apartment itself is awesome but it’s a townhouse that was converted into 4 apartments so that’s why there are two 15A circuits on each floor. The noise isn’t so bothersome that I can’t enjoy records or listening to music but I realized that I mostly just have to live with it for now. I’m almost more glad it’s not my equipment at this point as I think we will be moving in the next year or two to buy a house and I’ll likely do what you did and make sure the listening room has its own circuit breaker haha.

So is one of these worth a bid .. seems a pretty good price at the moment..100% feedback

Mine is the newer one "DS" It's great. I can't speak to this one as well. I suppose if you wanted to use an MC later it might be an issue, as this model seems to not have any way to adjust capacitance. ( just a static setting for all MC)

If it’s in good condition, it is fair price for what it is but the reviews aren’t brilliant. Some pro-ject phono stages get better review but I’ll be honest there are two or 3 options I’d pick ahead of them at every level.
Any suggestions then? Within a reasonable budget !

that depends on what is reasonable 😂. There are loads of options out there but you can pretty much pay whatever you want for them. Its easier to state a price range first and work from that.

Well I thought £350 was steep for a new one!

That’s fair enough, it all depends on the rest of your system but you could easily spend 5 figures if you had it and wanted to!

so if we say top price £250-£300 here are a few options.

Musical Fidelity LX2-LPS Phono Stage (Black) Musical Fidelity LX2-LPS Phono Stage: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics

They have all reviewed well and people on here have had one or the other at various stages. I don’t think you can go too far wrong.

I can vouch for the PHO 8 - sounds great, solid unit.

As with everything hifi it really is! For what it’s worth if it was my money I’d be going for the musical fidelity, which is the cheapest of the three.
Have put it in my wish list to have a look at ...good work @Joe Mac
I have the prior generation LX-LPS. I acquired it during the clearance sales prior to the introduction of the LX2, and I am more than pleased with it. I would say it definitely is a great value in its price point.

I know I've inquired before, but I'm upgrading my cartridge from a 2m Red. I have a uturn orbit, into a Vincent PHO 700. My upgrade options and prices seem to be:

2m Blue stylus - $145 shipped from Europe.

AT vm95ml - $170 shipped from Amazon

Grado Gold 3 - $260 shipped from Grado

I mostly listen to Rock/Soul/Blues/Jazz/Hip-hop/"world." Favorite group is the Grateful Dead, so something that will work well for live music is appreciated.

I get that the Grado is probably the best long-term choice, but is it $120 better? FWIW, I'm hoping to upgrade turntables after this next cartridge (so approximately Christmas 2021).

Grados are very popular around here, so I imagine that will be the most-suggested option if you can swing it. Though, and perhaps I’m mistaken, I thought I remembered the U-Turn having hum issues with Grado carts.

Between the Blue and the AT, I’d say get the Blue.

I don’t think so. They sell u-turns with factory fitted Grado prestige black carts!
