So the best my dealer could do on an brand new X2 is $1475 + tax (savings of $225) because of the supply and demand and of course it's a newer deck. Alternatively I could get an X1 for $1050 + tax (a savings of $150)...
Agreed I was just curious whether or not I was getting a fair deal that is all.9" tonearm, heavier plinth and platter, better cart. worth the extra outlay.

I think you're right about slimmer margins on turntables than let's say speakers. 15% is still better than full price. I guess I shouldn't always expect 40% discountsGoing off the CAD $1600 and CAD $1200 lists that you’ve quoted you’re getting 15% off the X2 and 12.5% off the X1. They’re solid enough discounts and it could also be that margins are tighter on turntables so can’t get the same discount as the other components without losing money.

The 2M Blue may not happen immediately but yeah that's the plan.Haha yeah that’s effectively a blue stylus extra and still paying the list
More if you get a good discount on the blue stylus too
Project is normally pretty tight on their MSRP pricing for current line gear, especially on the lower and mid lines. I think getting any discount at all should be considered a decent deal for new gear, from a dealer.Agreed I was just curious whether or not I was getting a fair deal that is all.
I wouldnt go for the X2 at $1475. Its really just a beefy Debut Carbon, with the same Pro-Ject trappings such as shitty motors and rubber bands holding it. It was supposed go retail at $1299, and even then your money is better spent elsewhere. So the best my dealer could do on an brand new X2 is $1475 + tax (savings of $225) because of the supply and demand and of course it's a newer deck. OK I guess you're not a fan of Pro-Ject turntables. That's fair but what would you recommend instead at that price point or lower?I wouldnt go for the X2 at $1475. I am only this bitter because I recently sent back a X2 because of how unhappy I was with it.OK I guess you're not a fan of Pro-Ject turntables. That's fair but what would you recommend instead at that price point or lower?
Might I ask what was the issue with the X2?I am only this bitter because I recently sent back a X2 because of how unhappy I was with it.
I am currently going down the rabbit hole of decided which model Technics I should buy.
Currently between the 1200 MK7, the 1200 GR, or interestingly a KAB modified 1500-C.
Give me your best phono preamps that won't break the bank...go!
Under $500That depends on how much is in the bank
There are good ones in all price ranges but without knowing what the range you're in it's hard to give a recommendation.
How much are Technics 1200GRs over there? Definitely worth auditioningOK I guess you're not a fan of Pro-Ject turntables. That's fair but what would you recommend instead at that price point or lower?

They range in price depending on the model starting at $1,200 for the 1200MK7. In comparison the 12000GR id $2,500.How much are Technics 1200GRs over there? Definitely worth auditioning
My only issue is I'm limited to certain brands if I go through my dealer.CAD? So thats $378/€320/£293 then.
I think you're looking at one of three: Vincent Pho-8/Musical Fidelity LX2-LPS/MoFi StudioPhono
I'd be edging towards one of the first two but you won't go too far wrong with either of the three. The Vincent has been discontinued though so if thats what you want and you see one still in stock I'd jump right away.
