I can get it. It costs more than the cartridge I was going to go for, but I can get it!
Gonna second the Geodisc so long as you’ve got at least a 9” arm. It seriously makes alignment a snap.

For now, I'm going cheap. Thinking about the Audio Technica AM95 elliptical. This'll do me pre-move, and then when I'm in Melbourne I can think of something better. Might even be tempted then to change the arm.Last question. Budget?
Got a 9" arm, so I should be good. As a long-term investment it might be a good move...Gonna second the Geodisc so long as you’ve got at least a 9” arm. It seriously makes alignment a snap.
That’s the move I’d make in your budget. And get the Geo Disc: it’s cheapest in the long term. I’ve had mine for 35 years. For now, I'm going cheap. Thinking about the Audio Technica AM95 elliptical. So, lets say sub-£100 for the cartridge, and I also need to get the setup gear as well. I'm possibly going to have to get a new phono stage as well, and I'm thinking Musical Fidelity LX2-LPS.
Thanks @HiFi Guy! Happy to hear it's got your seal of approval! That’s the move I’d make in your budget. And get the Geo Disc: it’s cheapest in the long term. I’ve had mine for 35 years.
Is this for your office, Anthony? Will listening position just be at your desk?Hey all, I'm looking for some recommendations on some powered speaker for my DAC. I think I'm going to movie it behind my desk, which will still give me headphone access for my digital files and streaming, but when I don't need to go with headphones I thought a nice set of speakers would be a nice addition.
I'm looking for something reasonably priced and utilizing the RCA inputs of the DAC.

Just thought I would put it out there for those who've had any positive experiences with some powered speakers.
Thanks

Yes and yes
I actually have, I think the budget is my concern. I don't want to spend a ton, but it seems with monitors you get what you pay for.Have you thought about taking a step into my world and getting a pair of studio monitors with a passive volume control?

I was hoping around $200, give or take. But if a compelling case can be made for something that goes a little higher, I'm open to discussion and research...and here comes the question! What’s the figure you have in mind?
Someone outside the forum mentioned these as "quality" low cost monitors, but I'm not sure....and here comes the question! What’s the figure you have in mind?

Looks like the RCA inputs might shrink the list a bit, since that's what will be coming from my DACWell there’s good news and bad news there. Bad news is you’ll have to stretch a little further, but the good news is that you can typically audition a lot of models in that relative ballpark at your local Guitar Center, Sam Ash, whatever you’ve got nearby. You’ll wanna stay with 5” woofers in that price range, and Yamaha, JBL, Kali, KRK, and Presonus all have compelling examples of 5” monitors.

Looks like my online research/demoing has led to a trip to GC on Saturday to see if the E5 is worth the extra $50 over the E4.5You could always do RCA>1/4” cables, so long as the 1/4” ins on the monitors support unbalanced. Or, do that into a passive volume control and go balanced out of that.
I stuck one of those 95e carts on the rega to sell it so I could keep the Nag 200. Sounds like a car scraping against a wall for the first hour but after that it was great. For now, I'm going cheap. Is it a bad idea to have tower speakers in a 1BR apartment?
If you have the floor space, go for it! Just mind the volume so you don't wake the neighbors. Is it a bad idea to have tower speakers in a 1BR apartment?
