There are ways around tinkering with tube amps. Changing a tube is about as easy as changing a lightbulb.Yeah, I would have to change amps too. I know it’s silly but I’m wary of changing tubes although I’m sure I’d be fine.
I don’t want a “fiddly” setup that requires tinkering.
I’ve often said I’d own a pair of speakers in the Klipsch Heritage line. By that, I mean Fortes or Cornwalls. Not the Heresy at all. At the end of the day though, I’d far more likely buy Tannoys.
My Exact is coming up on 2 yrs old but my TT only gets used on weekends. Anywhere from 4 to 10 hours max.Yeah, on a RP3. It's a nice cart. It tracks really well too. You need to fit a shim though (about 2mm) which means taking the tone arm off but it's not that difficult to do and because the head is a big square block it's easy to align too. I'm not sure it's a do everything cart though as, while its not muddy, it tends to have an almost all enveloping warmth about it. But i used it for about 2 years but now it lives in a drawers somewhere in the house. I'd come of a Orto Bronze that had lasted about a month on my TT but really wasn't for me.
How do you like the Insight? My Exact is coming up on 2 yrs old but my TT only gets used on weekends. Anywhere from 4 to 10 hours max.
I've seen a few videos of the Nags and they sound good. Would possible go to the Ania if staying with Rega.
I got around 6 hours into it over the weekend. Not enough for me to post on the Sutherland thread yet. But it's very good. Not sure if it will need to be used more to break in again. How do you like the Insight?
Blink, blink. Checks title of this website.I don’t want a “fiddly” setup that requires tinkering.
So I may be coming into the appropriate funding to completely upgrade my turntable experience. I definitely want a direct drive and buying a Technics SL1200 MK7 while a huge leap is one that when I really mull it over gets me pretty excited even at that hefty price point. With that said I know I’ll also probably need to get a phono pre-amp, I could probably just use my 2M blue in the mean time while I save up to replace that. What else should I also be looking into? Is someone going to advise against the purchase with something else perhaps? Im open to suggestions on what I’ll need if I go through with the purchase in maybe about 1-2 months depending on how long it takes to save for other pieces that I may need.
I think I can do $1,500 total in 1-2 months, but I also don’t mind waiting longer if it means I’m saving for better parts. Since the bulk of the money will not be on me to put away piece meal I’ve got some leeway so I could probably go to $1,800 if absolutely necessary saving across 2-5 months. What kind of price range are you looking at for the whole package table/cartridge/pre
If you're looking at the Mk7 is it worth comparing it to the PLX 1000? Someone jump in here and tell me if I'm miles off base but specs look pretty similar. So I may be coming into the appropriate funding to completely upgrade my turntable experience. At that price point you could get a new SL-1500c, which happens to come with a rather good built-in phono stage.I think I can do $1,500 total in 1-2 months, but I also don’t mind waiting longer if it means I’m saving for better parts. this is also me trying to be an adult and appropriately budget going into 2021.

That looks like it would end up closer to $2300.At that price range he could probably go to KAB and get one of the ones with all of their very promising sounding upgrades on it. That really would be a nice table!
I'm going to agree with @Rowan here, If you're dead set on a direct drive deck I would go with the PLX, it's is absolutely rock solid, built like a tank and every bit of an "audiophile" table, I would also just sit on your Ort cartridge for now and put the bulk of the budget towards the phono stage, arguably the one piece that will make the most impact.I think I can do $1,500 total in 1-2 months, but I also don’t mind waiting longer if it means I’m saving for better parts. If you are open minded to used gear, you can almost always find a used plx1000 at Guitar Center for $500. I see a used 1200mk7 used for $825 shipped on Reverb. Then keep your eyes peeled for a used Sutherland Insight for $900-$1k and you'd be set. Both pieces would last you forever, tooSo I may be coming into the appropriate funding to completely upgrade my turntable experience. Not gonna lie, you’ve got me 2nd setup dreaming with that, @Splunders!
This is basically my set up - my doctored up PLX + Insight is 1) not fiddly at all and 2) a goddamn workhorse. Not gonna lie, you’ve got me 2nd setup dreaming with that, @Splunders!
