Equipment Recommendations - The Home For New System and Upgrade Advice

So, I believe I asked this before and ended up with an updated cart. But what component of my system would it make the most sense to upgrade?

U-Turn Orbit (Grado Blue3), Schiit Mani, Onkyo TX-8020, Elac Debut B6

There's nothing that I'm completely dissatisfied with (but stuff can always be better right?) so I would also consider upgrading my Squeaky Clean RCM as well.

Difficult to say. You have a nice consistent balance there. Of course they can all be improved but it’s almost spin the wheel as to which first and it will be jumping into the next level. How much would you spend?

Not sure of budget quite yet but let's just say $500 for now. At this point I'm just looking further down the line for tax refund time.

I kind of agree with @Joe Mac , your at that crossroad of taking the next step up overall, so it does boil down to budget. I would start thinking long and hard of where you see the system ending, even if not end game completely, but that can help determine the path a little better. The RCM would be a great foundation to what you already have that can be solid regardless of the rest of the system.

If I'm at that crossroad where there's no worthwhile upgrade without throwing serious money at it, then I'm fine with that. Just was curious if there was any marginal upgrades that would make a difference. I know my amp is pretty bottom of the line but I don't know how much different a different one would make.

It depends what you mean by serious money, don’t necessarily need to go into thousands +, but you certainly have to think that you’re not going to make a worthwhile improvement by spending $100 more than your current pieces on each upgrade.

I think with $500 to spend within the equipment you have you're not going to see any huge change, in my opinion, someone may have a suggestion I'm not aware of that might yield a good bump, but if your looking to spend that $500, I would look at an RCM.

As @AnthonyI suggested, some type of record vacuum is the move here. Also get some Chisto concentrate as your cleaning solution. The stuff is amazing. Right now, I’m listening to a record pressed in the summer of 1959- 61 years ago. It sounds better than many current pressings I’ve heard. It’s been played on God knows what since it was new. Ninety seconds on the VPI with some Chisto and I’m amazed.

A record vacuum is a real game changer.

I have the Squeaky Clean which uses a shop vac and am currently using the Chisto with that. The Squeaking Clean works well but I feel like a dedicated RCM will do a better job on the vacuum end.

I like my VPI, no brainer, easy to store if you want and it's not manual as @HiFi Guy mentioned. That being said, if you're happy with the Squeaky Clean, maybe put the $500 aside and save up for a speaker upgrade, you can make a nice improvement on that end that will carry through to any future updates at around $1k-ish ;)

I think an ultrasonic is the only possible way up from here, and I'm not in a rush for that. The speed and convenience is hard to beat with most of the popular RCMs.
I'm sure this is a continuation of a previous conversation but which Pro Ject do you have? VC-S?

Oh I backed the Kickstarter ultrasonic too. Was in a good place price wise. It hit its target and will hopefully get the two stretch goals as well for the 7” and 10” adaptors. Looking forward to seeing how it comes to fruition!
lets just hope the ultrasonic frequency isn't too low

Doesn’t USPS operate entirely off of profits from postage? Doesn’t make it any less frustrating.
It’s my understanding that they operate at a loss, made up by federal funding.

The industry standard in this situation would be to pay the carrier $150 or so and the carrier finds another load. The USPS is the only shipper I know that pays the carrier the full agreed upon rate to haul “sailboat fuel”.
