..........that MC itch is a real thing.

Freakin' postal service ;)
You’d have it already if we had Royal Mail.

My company is running USPS overflow mail right now. There’s plenty of it and the money is decent. One of my drivers was on a NJ to FL run that loaded Saturday. They had no mail, so they sealed the trailer, gave my driver appropriate bills for a “no mail” run and sent him on his way.

Yep, we get paid thousands to drive an empty trailer from New Jersey to Florida. Our tax dollars at work. 🙄

So since we're talking MC's, cost and so on, here's the plan/hope with this new cart. I was really leaning towards going with the Soundsmith, the re-tipping cost was really appealing, the time, not so much along with the initial out of pocket. So in all my back and forth research, reading and so on I came across some info on Soundsmiths re-tipping for non Soundsmith carts and one that seamed to fare really well with their service was the Denon 103R, which has been on my MC list, so long story short.......

If the Denon reputation and feedback is anywhere near being accurate, it should deliver quite the sound experience, I found one new for $312. If the cart works out, phase 2 will be to have SS re-tip it and give that a go ($200-500 depending on the stylus), if it REALLY ends up being good, we'll probably pick up a second 103R to have 2 bodies to rotate through re-tipping.

Of course, first things first, the stock 103R ;)

I'd been thinking about getting an imported AT33PTG/II to have a play about with but would be interested to know how it performs compared to, say the OC9XML. I'm pretty much on the AT bus as it is at this point

The new art is more than I’d ever want to spend. The OC9 is a tad high to be honest but that is an itch I’d like to scratch at some point, even if just out of curiosity.
Honestly the ART 9 is perfect to me. I could stop there. And it’s worth the cost. Not sure why they changed.

If the SS doesn’t work out I will try the new one perhaps. It’s a bit steep to replace over and over, so I’m hoping the SS works out and if it’s close I’ll keep two so that I’m not down ever like @anthonyl mentions above

For a consumable it’s just too much yearly. I can justify saving to spend a lot on a piece that's going to be there forever, but €1500 first time and a chunk of that every year afterwards is way out of my financial comfort zone.

Elusive Disc sometimes sells certified retipped Soundsmith carts at a discount, somewhere in between the cost of a SS retip and a new one. That’s how I ended up with my Zephyr.

It’s a bit much for me too but it’s close. I don’t buy as many records as others around here though and it’s my one big Hobby, so...

For sure 350$ is better than 650$ so here’s hoping
