FUUUUUUU, now that I've seen the L100 limited edition Classic 75s in teak...
And if I've seen it, that means NIGHTMather has seen it.
Limited to 750 worldwide.
It's only $1700 more, I mean... it's PRACTICALLY NOTHING

-sweats profusely-

Hahaha! Yeah I’d seen those ones online, very handsome…

Apparently they aren’t just nicer looking but they’ve improved them as speakers, or so I heard, it could also be bollocks!!

Edit: Equally the grills will be covering that front panel so 🤷🏻

Yeahhhhhhhh, they upgraded the subwoofer on the Classic 75. And obviously changed the finish from a pretty dull but historically accurate walnut veneer to this absolutely gorgeous teak. Seriously, the picture doesn't do it justice.

@displayname I demo'd and I can definitely see what you mean by forward. They are very technical but not exactly laid back. The listening room was terrible as the place is under renos so it didn't do them any favors with the reverb in there. They were very impressive though. They didn't have the standard L100s available to demo though, so I'm gunna have to go back, even though the difference is likely negligible. And what with my having the Revel B10 sub I don't think the subwoofer upgrade will really change the sound much from what I'm going to hear at home.

Nice! Would the better subwoofer be enough to consider running your system without a separate subwoofer and see if you could trade both the speakers and the sub in to possibly make the fancier ones more attainable?

Be interesting to hear what you make of the standard v special edition once you’ve had the chance to demo them too.

Nawwwwt really because this system has to double as a 5.1 system for movies too so I kinda need that sub for that. I don't think I'd want to subject them to movies without the help. I'm not even certain I'd get the deal on the limited ones. I suspect they'd deny that considering there's only 750 worldwide.

Can’t wait to see an updated system picture. 🍺🍺
Well, I have to go back and actually demo the standard L 100. But I just got pricing and it's very very very very good. So it's probably possibly maybe gunna happen. But it'll be the standard, not the special edition. The other issue with the special edition is that the grill is black. So I'd have to drop a bunch more to buy both additional colors. Can't quite justify all that extra outlay, just for the admittedly beautiful teak and a small subwoofer re-jig and bi-wiring that I won't use.

That level of reasoning does not seem consistent with NightMather's M.O.

I say that we wait a few hours and a few drinks and see whether that justification is still there.

I'm with you on this. Crazy is one thing, greedy is another! :D When I recently purchased my Harbeth C7ES-3's, which were sort of a dream speaker for me, I got a good deal on the pair I bought, which were not the anniversary edition that, similar to what you've described with the JBL's, had a nicer wood grain and some minor tweaks to the crossovers. And would have cost a whole lot more! Somehow it was easier to draw the line when that line was already far beyond where that little voice inside was telling me it should have been.

Exactly. I mean COULD I do it? Yes. But it's just silly at that point. In Canadian funds the standard edition after buying the stands and extra grill and taxes are $8000. That's already totally silly, I'm getting an absolutely screaming deal or there's no way I could afford them. But 10 G's for the special edition after all those add ons... It's just too much, there are better speakers for much less.

So are you mostly falling for the sound, or is it the whole package that's getting you? Because they are very cool looking.

Well, I absolutely LOVE the look and the almost universally very very good reviews across the board are one big part of it. I thought the sound was excellent HOWEVER as I said the room was a terrible listening room, I had to stand, the room was echoing, it was not a good representation of what they can actually sound like. I need to go somewhere that isn't under construction to hear them. I think they'd sing in my system and I know they are well matched to my gear since it's all under the same "house". I think the "fun" factor could be just the thing to SLIGHTLY round the technical sound on my rig. I love dynamic and big stages and I'm not certain I've ever heard speakers that are this "big" in terms of stage and imaging while also being this dynamic and punchy.

This is the track they demo'd. It was pretty astonishing.

Anybody have recommendations for a set of passive speakers that can fill a tall (albeit small) room for around $500?
