Equipment Recommendations - The Home For New System and Upgrade Advice

I would GLADLY jump off the super expensive Tidal bandwagon if there was even a single other option up here for high res. Deezer isn't super high res, Apple is pretty good but I don't have an apple phone so functionality between that app and my bluesound node would require me to use the iPad or an old iPhone which is a pain since the iPad is usually in the basement and I'd have to go find it in order to play anything, Spotify are assholes but also don't have high res either and that leaves Amazon and ugh screw them too. And Qobuz isn't in Canada.

But yes the sound through the M15 with Tidal high res and these Andromeda 2020s is absolutely heavenly. I never know IEMs could sound like this.
Wait, Apple Music is on Android too. Can you not interface with the Node that way?

Speaking of golf, I did another thing. The color is golf adjacent. Campfire Andromeda 2020 IEMs. These are absolutely astonishing and are gunna make my 14 hours a week on public transit SO much more enjoyable/tolerable/stop me from going postal on random bus passengers.

These look like something teenage me would try to smoke weed out of.

Plex Amp, my riped FLACs/files etc.............screw em' all, lol

......still sub to Spotify for discovery reasons ;)

You can stream to the Android but you can't stream from the Android to the Node, it is of course blocked by Apple.

I think for once it’s not apple’s fault! The android device doesn’t support their AirPlay and the node doesn’t support chromecast. If the node supported chromecast you would actually get a higher res stream from Apple Music to the node than an iPhone user using AirPlay…

They can all go walk into traffic. I just need an app that gives me high res lossless and allows me to download and listen when underground on the subway. Apple and Tidal both do this, but Tidal is stupid pricy and the app sucks and always breaks, and Apple doesn't play nice with the Node.

We need a Plex "sharing" group :)

Yeah the thing is I mainly use mine for travel on subway, and I like being able to download new albums for "free" and listen to them on the subway. I don't really want to store tonnes of music on my phone and there's no wifi on our antiquated garbage subway lines.
Well, if your downloading from my NAS it's free ;)

No Qobuz in Canada!! Ffffff that's a huge bummer.

One lil Tidal trick I do, is let's just say a bunch of my music lovin' buddies are a family. You can have up to 6 😉

Apple have really made their service virtually unusable with it being unable to connect to anything. It's a shame.

Just curious, what do you mean by "super hi res"? Tidal's HiFi setting is 16/44.1, and the MQA is a 24 bit file with the sample rate being somewhat of a mystery, as far as I know. You may know something I don't here!

I just mean that Deezer maxes out at 1411 Kbps but Tidal is good up to 9216 IN THEORY... I think that Apple is about the same as Tidal, roughly. Amazon I believe is far lower. I think. Like you said, the info is nebulous.

Oh is MQA 16 bit? I always thought it was 24.

I haven't looked into Amazon at all. Do they not have real Hi Res? They claim to!

Apple Music supposedly can go up to 24/192 but only if you’re connecting laptops/phones/pads directly to the DAC with USBs. Once you want to stream from an apple phone it’s 16/44 because AirPlay is shit in so many ways or 24/92 from an android in theory but no one licences chromecast for their streamers.

I’ve heard the sample rate won’t sync up unless you manually set it on your DAC with Apple Music. Can’t confirm as I haven’t tried it myself, but heard that grievance from users, which is super disappointing if true.

I mean I have no idea, the numbers are so confusing but the what hi Fi article about it from last month lists 24 bit/192 KHZ and 9216 kbps for MQA. From what I'm seeing Amazon and Apple have the same high res bitrate. But my issue is the lack of Apple Music functionality with my node, and my hatred for Amazon...

But I will say I tried Apple Music high res last week and I actually thought it sounded better than Tidal. So if I can find a way around the streaming issue I may go that route.

What do you mean by manually sync? Once it’s physically connected by a usb and the device playing is set to hi res I’ve got the full whack of whatever’s playing. I’ve not had to mess with anything else. The disappointment for me is AirPlay and not being able to wirelessly play above 16/44.

Yeah I didn't know about the low res Apple Music stream to the Node, that puts that on our for me. So really it's Amazon or Tidal for me I guess, those are the only options.

Yeah the only way around it with a node is an apple device and then the hateful AirPlay knocks it back to 16/44. Which is a pity, the full hi res sounds great in my car.
