Equipment Recommendations - The Home For New System and Upgrade Advice

People shit on the u-turn for no reason than to do, it's a solid turntable, if you are happy with it enjoy it. If you want to upgrade, I'm fairly certain you need to think about at least a grand before you're going to really feel the improvement.
I would agree with this as a past U-Turn owner. Perhaps the PLX-1000 at $700 would be a nice little upgrade, but all my research indicated that the turntable upgrade wouldn't be really worth it until you got to the next range above $1,000. I found a cart upgrade satiated my upgrade needs for a year or so until I had the money to move up to my Technics.

is the project debut carbon evo an upgrade from a U-turn or a sidegrade, there was a little bit of debate because one person said the tonearm on a U-turn was budget and a pro-ject is a fairly sizable improvement... i don't plan on buying any new turntable anytime soon but I now have more money than I thought id have and that's giving me a bad case of upgradeitis
i think it's an upgrade, but not a HUGE one. once you hit $1k as others have said, you can get some other options that would be worth investing in.

My feeling would be, having the evo’s predecessor, that they’re very similar but perhaps the project might be a little easier to live with having the speed change and not needing a mat if you’ve the acrylic platter one. I think where the difference comes in is that as it’s a bigger company that sells more there are more options, both from project and third parties, to upgrade it and get some stretch. If I already had the u turn though I’d totally want to skip past the evo as an upgrade.

As has been noted in other threads, it's the big jumps that show up as really notable improvement. For me, that looks like spending at least twice as much on a component than I spent the last time.

I may have explained the extreme neuroticism that has lead to me check the upscale site EVERY day (at least twice a day). Anyhow, I see this at least twice a day:

I have no idea what the thing in between all the primalunas is and I don't know what those speakers are, BUT EVERY TIME, I'm like:

I’ve heard those Tannoys in a VPI listening room, they sound amazing.

What's the thinking on the lifespan of the AT VM95E styluses? I'm maybe 400 hours into mine, and I'm not sure if I need a change. Have another couple kicking about, so it's an easy change.

Id say youll be fine with at least double that use. I’ve found since moving to more advanced profiles like microcline and shibatta that they last way longer than the circa 1000 hours I was getting from elliptical styli.

I spent a couple night's at my buddy's place when I was out of town the other week, and he has my old U Turn - acrylic, 2M Red, and I'll be damned if I didn't thoroughly enjoy I everything I listened to with him!
