I'm a technical director.Okay, after looking it up, are you a recording engineer now?
THEN SHOULDN'T YOU ALREADY KNOW.I'm a technical director.
Do any of you have any experience with the VTL TP-2.5i phono stage?
TP-2.5i Phono Preamplifier | VTL Amplifiers, Inc
Seems to be another contender.
Lord knows. After reading up on it I dropped it anyhow. Pretty much looking like the Halo JC3+ is the one, assuming I can afford it.Signal to noise ratio is low. I really hope that’s a misprint.
Seriously, not kidding, what about a Darlington Labs MP7-SU7 combo? Way less than you are looking at money wise. When I had the MM6 here- it came dangerously close to my Sutherland, and even managed to so some things my Sutherland can’t.Lord knows. After reading up on it I dropped it anyhow. It's all about trade in. No one sells Darlington up here, I will probably end up paying about the same amount in actual cash either way most likely after I trade. I mean the Halo JC3+ has pretty much universal praise across every review I've seen, legendary designer, neutral with a bit of warmth, end game quality, dual mono stage with a mono switch which solves that whole mono playback issue for me. I’d likely do that before anything you are looking at.
It should. I forgot about the trade in requirement. Darlington Labs sells factory direct so no additional dealer markup. It's all about trade in. We'll see how it plays out. I appreciate the info. Biggest issue is once again, no one up here even has it set up to demo, so I'm kinda going in blind with any of these. It's crazy I live in one of the biggest cities in the world and yet there are like no hi fi stores around that actually have any of this stuff to demo. I SHOULD OPEN ONEIt should. I looked seriously at the JC3+ when I bought my Duo. Nice piece.

I feel like there are 3 types of hifi stores in this city. The shitty big box stores like BestBuy etc.. then there's like a few mid range stand alone stores that stock some high end stuff as well, but like, just a few. And then there's a few executive class appointment only crazy high end places. And that's it. The mid range stores are the ones to go to but there are so few of them and they only stock certain stuff and they're small and limited in terms of demos etc. It seems a lot more niche than I feel it should be, there's a LOT of money in this city.I’m sure there are plenty of very richvictimscustomers in the greater Toronto area…

There used to be more here but I think the big box places kinda drove the independents out, even though the independents obviously stock better stuff. But I always kind of forget because I spend so much time "inside the vinyl world" that this stuff IS niche and these little places probably need to turnover a lot of low end product in order to make money so they do get boned when Best Buy or whatever undercuts them on everything that the average consumer would be buying. Like in my mind this semi high end gear sells really well but in actuality it likely barely moves, because "audiophile" circles are probably like a fraction of a fraction of 1% of the market. I assumed this store would sell lots of the Halo JC3+ per year, owner just told me he averages about 3 a YEAR. So in closing, fuck Amazon? The big box stores here have completely got out of music unless you want a sonos speaker or one of those all in one Sony CD player things for €200-300. Means that if you want hifi you have to go to the specialists. There is a mostly online one with a small storefront out of a warehouse in an industrial estate and a super fancy one.
That said the super fancy one will see you off the street after you ring the doorbell and they only treat you semi like a pleb and they do sell a small selected amount of stuff under a gazillion euros.

Yeah I mean it's like that with everything. One of my directors at work was building a golf driving simulator in his garage. I guess there's an app that can track a struck ball so you can put up a screen and project the course using the app and then actually drive the ball into the screen and it shows you the flight and where it would land etc. Anyhow he wanted suggestions on a projector and I'm like pulling up these $1000 units that I thought would be more than reasonable and he's like "it needs to be less than $150".Yeah totally. I have a friend whose brother in law loves music and inherited a tonne of old records from his dad. She was asking what I thought would be a good recommendation for a surprise present of a turntable and I was, trying to be cognisant of not having them spend too much, recommending an AT LP120, or at a stretch, LP60. Both were way more than they were thinking lol!
URGLY!
